now I understand Wengers transfer policy ..someones got to pay for that big watch on his hand...

Buy an existing PL striker with a proven goal scoring record in the PL. Arsenal PLC will struggle to sell alot of shirts in an already crowded market.

Buy an non-PL striker from North Africa. Arsenal PLC well potential to sell a **** load of merchandise in a new market.

back to balance sheet football I see . :P
If you're talking about Aubameyang I'd take him over every striker in the league with the exception of Aguero and maybe Lukaku. 'Proven PL player' is nonsense and always has been.

There are plenty of examples of big money signings from outside the PL where players have taken a good while to adjust or not at all.

There are also examples of proven PL players who have gone to another club and helped them win the league. I can think of us giving united a proven PL player a few years ago, which won them the league.

Of course, but if you had the choice between a player who is getting 20 goals/season in the premier league, and one who is getting the same amount in another league, which would you take?

I'd look into it more :p there's tonnes of things to take into account for transfer, for example would I take Aubameyang or Vardy? Aubameyang. Lukaku might be a different story. Its just nowhere near as simple as saying one guy's PL proven and one guy isn't.

Have I missed something or have we been linked with a current premier league striker? (apart from Deeney)

Don't think we have and don't think we've been linked to one from "north africa" either.

You would prefer Francis Jeffers (6 in 12 in 2000/01, scoring at the rate of 20 goal/season) to say Denis Bergkamp coming from failure in Italy?

Or Robbie Keane (23 goals in 2007/08 when he went to Liverpool) to Thierry Henry coming in from Juventus (3 in 16)?

Or Andy Carroll (11 in 19 in the first-half of the season before he went to Liverpool) to Didier Drogba?

Or Chris Sutton (21 goals in 1997/98) to Sergio Aguero or Nicholas Anelka?

The answer to all that is Henry.

If you're talking about Aubameyang , he's from Gabon, on the Central West African coast

Your examples aren't the best, especially when you're having to use half-season stats to show someone is 'proven'.

My point is that all things being equal, someone proven in the Premier League would be preferred over someone who isn't.

The thing about Aubameyang is that he has already moved from one league to another - from France to Germany and seems to have improved as a result.

I don't think we'll be getting him but he'll be one of the best strikers in the league if we do.

Edit - although he did take a little time to adjust - only scoring 13 in his first season with Dortmund

I agree, i'd take Aubameyang over all but a couple of the 'proven' Premier League strikers.

EDIT: Not sure who Kike Marin is but he's 'reporting' that a bid of €60 has been made by Arsenal. Can't see him leaving under any circumstances in Jan tbh.

That seems awfully cheap, even for us. Are you sure it wasnt €60 + 1?

We have 12 players out on loan at the moment

Chesney conceded 3 last night in Serie A
Martinez didnt play for Wolves at the weekend
Akpom and Hayden didnt play for Hull at the weekend
Toral had an assist for Birmingham in a 2-1 win
Maitland-Niles was an unused sub for Ipswich
    Gnabry wasnt used either
Jenkinson got 4 minutes for West Ham
Wellington Silva played about 25 minutes for for Bolton
Stefan O’Connor played 60 minutes for York
Zelalem played and had an assist in a 6-0 win for Rangers

With the exception of Zelalem who I understand is playing regularly and doing well for Rangers, none of our loan players seem to be making any impact at their clubs, seems strange as Martinez has champions league experience and Gnabry played a bit a few seasons back. You would be hoping that players would be learning and gaining experience from time away from the club

    *edit
Forgot about Sanogo, he is the 12th player, open to correction but I dont think he has ever got a game for Ajax

Did he not also tout the Benzema story too? He took the side of that Florida based female reporter? If I recall correctly...

ANyway, logged on here about 15 mins ago having not being on for over a day, saw the amount of pages and figured, "we've either signed somebody, or else there a few petty rows"

    Sadly it was the latter.

I think it's safe to assume Elneney is on his way, may be revealed as soon as the work permit is granted, or Wenger will do as he's done before, reveal the players in pairs... So who's number 2? Aubamayeng (SP??) would be a brilliant signing. He replaced Lewandowski so well. I'm not saying he's as good as Lewandowski, not yet anyway, but he's a class act.

Played as a wide attacker that season, he moved central when it was apparent Immobile was no Lewandowski, Aubameyang hasn't looked back since then.

He could have but i dont think so. Also linked with rabiot today. If we got 2 out of the 3 id be happy.

As i don't think Aubameyang is possible this window i think Elnany & Rabiot would be a pretty good return all things considered.

    Rabiot's got huge potential.

or even long enough to remember Charlie George, John Radford, Malcolm McDonald (holds the record for most goals in his first season, established 1st division striker who transformed that form into the Arsenal team also) dont worry if you dont remember them, you can always google them

    you see potential Henry
    I see potential Chamak

Is it English players or Premier League players you want specifically? I'd love to see Lukaku come in, maybe harry kane to a lesser extent but apart from him Aubemyang looks better than any other PL striker apart from Aguero I would think. The likes of Ighalo and Vardy would be more of a gamble I think.

    A proven PL goal scorer.
Watching Arsenal we play everyone off the park but havent had a clinical finisher who maximises the quality of the other 9 outfield players, since Van Persie.

We have dosh, we are in a great position.
We have had plenty experiments with non-PL forwards in recent year that didnt work out. Id just like to see Wenger spot a talent in a striker playing in one of the English leagues.

Giroud is great, another strker will take some pressure and expectation and game time off him.
