    It means to carry a kind of moral message, in relation to fables, short stories, sayings etc.

    Hi, the only two I can think of offhand is exemplum and allegory. I realise that the latter begins with an "A" though. Hopefully one of them is the word you're looking for.

    Aphorism.
    That's the word I was going for.
    Doesn't begin with an E.
    Does not fit entirely with the definition I gave above.
    I presented ye with an impossible task, I am sorry.

    Thanks be to God it hit me though because I was about to start going through E in the dictionary.
