I think I read somewhere the Teachers Union were warning teachers not to take up these jobsbridge positions.

description seems decent if its any true,that person will be guided,not thrown in class and away he/she goes :pac: would fit someone who just graduated and need experience,but with that said wages that teachers get and not being able to pay minimum would be completely different topic,since some earn in range of 20-40e just for bare minimum.

^I thought teachers who'd just graduated already have experience, as part of their course? Where they necessarily do placement for quite a while. Why then should they take a supposedly upskilling internship?

not sure really managed to meed couple teachers in my time that done college,but never asked about work experience-but know that any position they got was paid highly even if substituting or part time ,point being i only said if description is anything to go by,which most likely is not the case,and not being able to pay at least minimum to train person up and keep,we could bash that add for ages like another 100 that appear every day.

Yes, they'll have completed teaching practice as part of their course.

I'm amazed they allow that as part of jobbridge they wouldn't do it for the nurses! Its scandalous that they would advertise for a teacher on jobbridge. At least it was taken down off the system. Its bad enough when they re-advertise the same jobbridges over and over again. Yet they want the immigrants to come back? They won't now despite the economy picking up a little. Just people are spending more wisely I suppose. You wonder with all the new jobs being created lately that it only caters for certain industries and how many of those jobs are long term/permanent/paid jobs??

Its not taken down, if you go into the jobbridge.ie and search primary school teacher it comes up.

An post and the credit union are using jobsbridge aswell.

Oh right its not on the Solas/Fás page. Its ridiculous they haven't taken it off jobbridge website! I wonder how it was allowed at all are the jobbridges assessed at all before being place on jobbridge website?

Host organisations have to meet the criteria regarding the number paid employees on their books. And they have to be a legal entity, and provide mentoring for any Jobbridge placements. After that I don't see any need for anyone to have to vet thousands of individual advertisements. And there is no legislation which precludes any particular job from being advertised, once the employer meets the criteria to be a host organisation.

It is self regulating anyway, with people on the dole ignoring unsuitable placements. Nobody is forced to apply for them. There were only 4,886 places filled in October, when the maximum allowed in 8,500.

3. Is your organisation eligible?
This programme is open to host organisations in the private, public (including commercial semi-state) or community and voluntary sectors.
In order to qualify for an internship an organisation must have a minimum of 1 full time employee who is employed for 30 hours or more per week (i.e. on payroll and subject to PAYE and PRSI).
The host organisation must be a legal entity and/or a charity recognised by the Revenue Commissioners (with a CHY number).

i cant complain too much about this, sure its free labour but 3 months into my placement i got offered the job and today was the first paid day i worked so im pretty happy with how my JB experience has been

It's so bad that people are thrilled to hear a good story!!! The fact it is this way shows how awful this scheme is. We should be hearing mostly good stories, not the other way around.

As someone who has contacts in multinational companies, they often hate to take on jobbridge as permanent staff afterwards with few exceptions. Age been the most issue, fine as teens or very early 20's, but see them as people who couldn't stick collage long enough.

Sucks, but lot of companies see jobbdrige as people that are not good enough to get the job, simply part time fillers until they find someone better qualified.
The idea in theory is good but doesn't seen to work out all the time. Not an absolute, but seems to be an issue.

FAS had a much better reputation before the name Jobbridge was introduced.

I think that is very unfair. My sister has a learnin difficulty and never did well in school or college. She couldn't focus her mind but as a worker she is super. She even worked for an Olympic group over in denmark. Every employer she has ever had has hated to see her leave. She rises quickly through the ranks and has made manager in a few places.

But she couldn't do college.

Know of a place that has been getting people on this scheme every 9-10 months, the same title, etc, for about three years. They clearly need a worker but just don't want to pay.

So in reality we can put the unemployed figure back up by about 80k.

It has been happening for years, it is a great way to massage the numbers, they really should be forced to mention the real percentage and then the adjusted percentage, but sure that would make them look bad :rolleyes:

It was actually 89,704 in May last year, last figure I can find quickly, the schemes are deemed to be Activation Programmes.
