Vertically mounted cabinet with side-opening door?

So this is the space available for comms, it is too narrow to fit a regular comms cabinet of 19". The dimensions are 750mm depth x 455mm width:

It is to house a 24 port switch, a router, patch panel and later perhaps a smaller patch panel and a small switch. I was thinking of 4U or 5U. The remaining space will be used for NAS, satellite receiver, surround sound, games consoles, etc.

Due to the space restrictions I would like to mount a comms cabinet vertically, something perhaps like this:

The issue with this is that the door would open like a draw bridge, either from the bottom or top.

Are there comms cabinets that I could mount vertically and still have a side opening door? Would it be better just to mount the kit directly to the wall without the cabinet?

If you could get hold of an old metal filing cabinet you could use the extending hinges which support the drawers to fasten shelves to the walls which would then slide in and out.

What's "behind" the wall of the little alcove on the right hand side ?

Might be way less hassle to just move it a bit

Concrete chimney RHS, new stud wall LHS, concrete wall in front.

excellent

take off one of the electrical sockets and check how deep/thick the new plasterboard wall is

you could cut away the plasterboard, taking care not to damage the "room side" of the wall

this should gain a few inches for you

Thanks for the links.

Regarding the skelton skin rack which I understand to be the same as patching frame, it would still have to fit in the space which I do not think it will, and I do not see what benefit it provides over just some sort of shelving - perhaps I am missing this?

What do you think of this, seems to do the same job but much, much cheaper:

wouldn't be very deep, nice to have something to keep dust out it long term if things in there have active cooling

Hmm, what is the best depth to go for?

Right now it will just be for patch panel, 24 port smart PoE managed Gigabit switch (have not decided on one yet), and router although I would like to be able to add to this later, possibly a firewall, and CCTV and surround sound system if rack-mountable.

What do you think of this:

600mm seems about right to accommodate switches, patch panels, and at 24 inches even a UPS if I ever put one it. Any server that will be in this space is going to probably be in ATX form.

get one deep as you can, better to be looking at it than for it in the future

What depth would you go with yourself? They have 600mm depth although that increases the price to £100. I am not sure how easy it would be to get the door to swing on new side hinges!

really easy when it's all in front of you, just copy-ish-kinda the way its done for the sideways hinge

and the "side panels" ( top and bottom panels in your case ) can be removed - you can unclip them and modify them for dust filters and fans
