Why wouldn't it? Complete headwind and the wind is slightly lower than earlier.

Just on Sky News now that there are 7 planes on the ground in Belfast ( not sure which one ) but due to the wind Swissport cannot get the stairs to the planes to disembark the passengers

It's apparently a mess up at Belfast International, not for only the passengers stuck on the aircraft but also those waiting for a dozen or so delayed departures dependent upon the same aircraft. Can't see those departing anytime soon, winds due to persist until around 03:00 followed by lashing rain.

I hope the poor blighters don't have to camp-down on the floor overnight :(

I didnt suggest it wouldn't get down. Just meant it would probably be a bit blowy esp for an ATR .

Wind changing all the time. When I posted I noted the degrees when the runway is at 166degrees.

They are with Shannon control now heading back towards Dub.

Edit: they've changed their squawk too.

Ryanair LTN-DUB just made the most awful racket on takeoff there, was a bit worried for a second. Very late indeed!

You must bear in mind that just because the stated wind direction is closely aligned with the runway heading this does not mean all is going to be plain sailing. Windshear is defined as a sudden change in wind direction and/or velocity, so the wind may change momentarily which could lead to an unstable approach and necessitate a missed approach procedure.

Also, the surface wind is one thing but as you increase altitude the wind direction changes and the wind speed is greater. So surface wind of 190/25 may be 220/45 at 2000ft. Imagine this scenario while flying a precision approach and possibly struggling to maintain directional control or stability owing to the turbulence and environmental conditions present at the time.

Also maintaining a precise approach speed in conditions such as these is no easy feat, and again is a factor which must be taken into account as part of a multiple of variables which must all be considered when calculating or executing a successful approach/subsequent landing.

So even if the wind direction is close to the runway heading, when accompanied by strong winds and gusts it still presents problems to flight crews and must be dealt with accordingly.

Apologies. Didn't realise the wind would veer towards that direction and gust up that much. It diverted to DUB after an early enough go around.

Several flights doing up to 660kts south west of Newfoundland.

Just for added knowledge, the TAF for Cork is forecasting surface wind of 200/30G47 for 0500-0800, but as you can see in the attached picture the winds aloft at 2000ft could be around 220/50kts. Not a great example of the possible variation that can exist but you get the idea.

Like one of my old instructors used to say, winds are like the female of the species, unpredictable, often volatile, and must be treated with caution and the utmost of respect! :pac:
