Hang on, has it been sunny at Dublin airport this morning? Lashing rain since sunrise here in Celbridge and DUB synop reports have it overcast and raining since 8 am. Makes me wonder if that photo was really taken today

Looks pretty miserable in that PIC in fairness. Nice seeing the place at rest after the madness of the last couple of weeks.

Looks rainy in the photo. Where do you see the sun?

Look at the shadows of the planes in the foreground. Looks sunny to me

Reflections in the rain. Some people have great imaginations.

If you had a private plane could you do a touch and go at Dublin airport today? Or is the runway closed?

you can fly the approach and as low as you want but you must overshoot. friend of mine who flys from EIAB did it a few years ago. Paul took that photo mentioned above. nice one he got!

There's another band of heaving rain off in the distance north of the airport! That's pretty much what winter has been so far

747 off from SNN, arrived from Chicago earlier.

    Nice Xmas day visitor.

Was just about to post this. Passed near the house at about 6000 ft.
Screenshot won't attach for some reason

Yes, on the phone it looked sunny but on closer inspection I see it's wet. Sorry to the author!

Three Aer Lingus from bhd, dub and ork landing in a row at Heathrow just now. Can't imagine that happens too often.

Two American Airlines 777-ER's passing over Cork now, one at FL270 and the other at FL390, from LAX and ORD respectively, both inbound to LHR. Anyone know the reason for the former being at such a low FL? I would have thought with the longer flight from LAX that they would be lighter upon reaching Ireland and so the optimum altitude would be higher?

The aircraft was at a higher level for the NAT crossing:

Most likely descended due to turbulence at FL330, with FL's above also be reported as rough as well or occupied so descent was only option.

Nice lineage 1000 airborne out of SNN CN-SHS.

Heres something you don't see very often, Cork with 10km or more vis and Shannon at 1100m RVR on RWY24

Here another unusual one, EI3638 (STK38SN) off from RWY06 at SNN and FR1182 off from RWY24 about 2-3min later.

May be down to movements on the field as in an aircraft being towed down the delta's when the stobart was ready to taxi but cleared by the time the RYR was ready to taxi. So the stobart may have elected to depart from 06 rather than back tracking for 24

Makes sense. Wind is 140 degrees so not much of a tailwind on 24.

Up to 3 rounds of hold for new traffic entering the hold.

I have been following this thread forever it seems. It's been very exciting at times and useful as well. I even had the cheek to post a few times. As a regular traveller, FR24 is brilliant and watching it and listening to ATC live while waitng in airports in 2015 has helped pass many hours.
Thanks to all the regular posters on here and best wishes for 2016.

5pm TAF showing winds of 170 degrees 32kts G 50kts at SNN between 3-6pm. Safe to say if those winds materialise very little will be landing during those times.

*Keep in mind the orientation of RWY24, at 240 degrees that's a large crosswind.

Nice line of departures waiting at the threshold of RWY16 at DUB.
