Just shy of 55km by my reckoning but GPS reckoned I did 114k!!!!

I lost a few PR as I deleted the Strava file as it was clearly wrong 😠. The headwind from Carrick to Clonmel on N76 was murderous.

Positive note I have decided on the Thompson R7200 with 105 as my first road bike. Add my new Garmin 500 from Unknown Soldier and I cannot wait till New Year.

Cycled 9km, on my first, er, training run for my intended trip down to Mullaghmast. It took me 40 minutes. Must do better. (Admittedly, my bike weighs 20kg and the gears don't work any more, but still…)

Looking out at the howling wind today, somehow I don't think I'll be on the bike, unless it moderates later.

Edit: Ah, discovered there was also fluff in the chain and plastic wound around the bottom bracket. Still…

Got a new BB and headset fitted on Friday, had a lovely cycle in this morning. the ride was much smoother and felt like I was up a extra few kmh.

A mundane spin today - just 32km around the locality as it was dark and I wanted to keep with street lights.

More significantly, back in January I set a target of 5,500km for 2015. All went well until April when I developed a problem in my right leg. It got worse and as a result I missed the big km months of June and July while waiting on a medical diagnosis. The diagnosis was a bummer but thanks to my stubbornness, I refused to cancel a bike rental that I'd booked in the French Alps in late July which forced me back on the bike even if it was for 100km over 4 spins.

After a consultation with my excellent surgeon I was back on the bike - slower and in some pain but a shítload better than sitting on the couch*

Then it was time to chase down the 5,500km target. Today saw that mission accomplished with 10 days of 2015 to go. Job done & I'm happy out.

*Sitting on the couch wasn't that bad as it was Grand Tour season!

Well done.....you picked a good Summer to get injured, I reckon I did more mileage last Winter than I did this s****y Summer.

In Lanzarote for the Christmas so headed out with a fellow Boardsie this morning to do this https://www.strava.com/routes/3807549
Strava route builder said 540m of climbing but we recorded 730m. Very nice hot sunny weather but the usual strong breeze made the last bit of climbing tough.
Not the longest spin but the hills made up for that. Plus I'm a big lad who is used to the flat roads of the Midlands.
I can highly recommend Christmas in the Canaries...

Just to counter all this sunshine talk (above), did 65k in damp overcast conditions around Summerhil / Dunboyne. Nice to be out and salve my conscience before the Xmas food feast. Interesting to see how long I will last before I find my mitts in a tub of Heros on the 25th.

After waking up morning after morning in the last 10 days to the most horrendous winds where I live, at the bottom of the Dublin mountains, I once again had a cup of HTFU and headed out this morning, rather than the usual "I'm sane and don't think that is very safe" stuff

Tough going! Into gale force winds and getting rained on quite heavily but better than doing that whole Turbo thing, it was about 9 degrees out. I'm nearly sure I don't tick all the sanity boxes as such, there was an element of lunacy to the spin, plus me screaming like a big a girl a few times. Seriously horrendous side winds! Scary :(

I'll do my best to try and finish of at 6.5k for the year, currently at 6.3k. Not bad considering my incident in January, the heebeegeebees are strong.

    16.6km done with 275m climbed.

I'd really like to do another century before the end of the year so I can Sing "25th Century..boyyyy" in my head and have done it!

    I mentioned sanity, didn't I?

Just did 50k around Dublin, well home > Howth > home. Howth Head was miserable this evening with fair strong swirling winds. Trying to do 250kms a week now on top of my gym stuff to get myself ready for Hell and Back at the end of January. 16 stone now from 20 at Easter gone

30km in the pissing rain at 5.10 AM this morning briefly put me 29th in the Festive 500 rankings, not bad out of 60k people :D

Finished work at 10 so bolted home to get a good spin in before Xmas.

Clonmel - Cahir - Balyporeen then did a u-turn as I was unsure where I'd end up! Back to Clogheen then Clonmel via Ardfinnan.

Major error I made was I hadn't enough food to keep me going for 75.5 km so suffered badly last 10km but delighted to PB on distance.

Had a job to do this morning but got it done earlier than I thought I would. With the forecast in mind I managed to get out at 11.30 and squeeze in 55 of the most pleasant km's of the year around North Wicklow. Absolutely glorious. Not too many about on bikes though funnily enough

Went out yesterday morning, fancied going up to Glencree.Would have preferred to go on to the Gap but carrying a niggle from last week so erred on the side of caution.
Tough SW to contend with all the way up to the German cemetry.
Lovely sunshine, got a couple of PRs, passed a dozen or so cyclists along the way, got passed on the Scalp 😂 enjoyable spin before the madness begins.

Left the house yesterday at 1:30pm, dry and reasonably bright with a light wind. I thought I had sufficient clothing on but as soon as I got going I was Frozen, I had to brake going down hills as the wind chill was severe. After 2km I took a left turn and headed for home for Warmer clothing. The route back is rolling hills with a 1km 4/5% climb back to my house. Once I arrived I was sufficiently warm so just continued past the house and stayed on backroads towards Cark mountain (Donegal). The wind/storm was starting to pick up so I gave Cark itself a miss and headed for home into a stiff headwind. Total 29km with 310m of climbing at average of 24km/h.

Put a new chain on the bike last night and greased the hell out of the BB. Went off this morning just to check it out. Not a sound out of the bike. Shifts were quick, smooth and silent. Almost like a new bike. Anyone know what lube is on a new KMC chain? It's good stuff imo.

Spin was just a quick jaunt up to Clonard and back, avoided the rain by seconds. No point getting drowned and miserable. The hard work starts next week after plenty of carb loading.

    Happy Christmas everyone :)

55km about the Mayo/Sligo border. Think it is one of the coldest days I've ever been on a bike. Real feel of -°5.

It hit minus one when I went out today. It was bad enough that I was in bits when I headed out but the stabbing in the face hail/rain was fairly sore. I'm assuming the Tyskie beer I had last night must have been out of date and went from 5.5% to something like 12% because I'm either ill, or that was the worst hangover I have had in a lot of years.

As my bike won't let me stop cycling it regardless, I managed to do 21.7km with 243m of climbing, and let me just say... climbing stocking lane with a gale hitting you in the face, with stabbing ice blades, is no fun.

It was actually really sore!

I was grand from the waist up (bar my face) in my Galibier Mistral but I think I need some winter gear for the legs!

    Happy Christmas everyone!

Wet out there today, but brilliant to get out an clear the head. Lazy enough ride up to Bohernabreena reservoir, half a dozen laps around the upper reservoir in the muck and rain, and back again for 34k of light off road fun.

Thought I was a hardy buck today when I was getting near home and the computer had just rolled over 100km when I met a chap in shorts with no gloves coming the opposite way.....

Lots of standing water out there today, met a flood out near Suncroft that was a bit deeper than I thought and managed to get two properly wet feet, it took them a while to warm up again.

Enjoyed the spin, was within a KM of home a few times but zigzagged a little to get over the 100km.

Did 70km this morning from Dundrum out to Malahide and back. Roads were quiet and enjoyed the soaking I got. Only downside was brakes weren't great in the wet, so had to bang my foot down a few times on the road to try and stop :o

No spin today but cannot wait to get out tomorrow, new helmet, first time using Garmin and most off all trying out cleats on my hybrid to get used to them before my road bike is good to go.

Out at 9 this morning sun shining here in South Roscommon but a cold breeze, the type that makes your nose drip.39 km of quiet rolling roads. A nice hill 12 km in which took all of my 39/28 gearing to climb, no more trifle for me.1: 40:58 trip time with an average speed of 22.7 km/h. Rain has just started it's never to far away.

Handy enough 70 odd today, but icy at 1000 but thawed nicely as morning went on, 8 of us but only 2 at the end as rest had families who wanted them back ;)

And presumably the other 2 remain persona non grata....

    :pac:

Club 2-up TT was cancelled due to an overflow of wimps only turning up for the sandwiches and refreshments

TBH when I saw an overturned jeep at Blakes X this morning I suspected heading out hard on a TT may not be the most sensible thing to attempt this morning (not that I was ever going to be doing anything other than pressing buttons on a stopwatch)

And away I went today in my shiny new shoes, Garmin and helmet...

Just the sharp 37.7km at an average of 28.2km/h but what I did find out was that I was hitting short pull that was hitting 13%, boy was I shocked.

Shoes were fine if even the "play" seemed a little too much at times and I was also left hanging trying to clip in crossing at Kilsheelan, scary!!

60k for me today in my frantic last efforts to break 10000km for the year. Arrived back to a delicious stew followed by Christmas pud. Can't be losing valuable calories on the roadðŸ˜႒

Planned 50/60KM this morning, left house at 9am, came off bike after 10KM and Leixlip Confey after wheels slipped in ice, luckily I was going slow at that point. Figured it would get worse before it got any better so headed for home. First time out in these conditions, will stick to main roads in future.
