I refer to them as the Boxing Day fixtures, like the Thanksgiving American Football

Difference is we don't have a Thanksgiving so that's what its called all over the world. We do have a "St Stephens day" though

Like, Christmas is great, and that.

    But I really can't wait till St Stephen's day.☺

    Southampton are gonna get it.

My favourite day of the year.
Loads of football, darts, racing on tv and the wife out visiting inlaws or outlaws as i like to all them.
A few nice little drinks, a big open fire and loads of sports on tv.
    The magic of Christmas.

St. Stephen, the first christian martyr. A Brit i believe.
Boxing Day was when the royalty divided all the uneaten food and distributed it to the poor in little boxes.

I prefer St. Stephen's Day myself.

    Still buzzing after Mondays win..
not only cos of the 3 points and who the opponent was , but the performance. It was one of the best Ive seen not for style but for profesionalism and tactical execution.

We sat back ddnt chase the game, were relaxed, had a game plan and everyone seemed to know their job.
Kept a good shape, 2-0 HT job done, should have had more , was sure my -2 12/1 was going to come in, but I didnt mind I took City (-3) corners to cover it.

We seem to finally be realising that we dont have to win the match in the first 45 , just make sure we havent effectively lost it by HT

Im looking forward to sitting on the couch on St Stephens day to watch the PL Boxing day fixture.

    Probably is

The editor of bild reported Wenger rang pep himself

Safe to say our next manager may not be as willing to commit to 21 years like Wenger. Large turnover in football management not just in sackings but in retaining the top coaches. Pep for example moves on after a period and Klopp has done this also. Would our board part with Peps wages?
The current speculation resembles a game of musical chairs, Pep, Mourinho, free. Possibly moves for Simeone, with Pellegrini and Van Gaal heading for the exit

Main reason I would love Pep is that he would insists on opening the purse strings and the cash is there as we all know.

Whatever about the lack of success over the period of building and paying for the stadium, Wenger is certainly leaving the club in a fantastic position for the future.
    Possibly his biggest success.

Wouldn't fancy Pep, has never had to build or overhaul a squad. Arguable he's had a detrimental effect on Bayern since he arrived.

Wouldn't have to overhaul Arsenal either.

Bild can p*ss off, and so can Pep.

We have our manager, thanks very much.

Anyway, to flesh out my Pep views, he started at Barcelona with probably 4 of the 10 best players in the world to play the kind of football that's only successful with players of that quality. When it was clear he was leaving they lost 7-0 on aggregate to eventual winners Bayern Munich in the CL. He joins Bayern as reigning CL champions and while they continue to dominate the league (with declining yearly points totals) he leads them to a 5-0 aggregate loss to Real Madrid in the CL semi-final. The following year they once again go out in the semis, this time to Barcelona 5-3 on aggregate after losing the first leg 3-0.

Aside from Pep's record itself, our squad may not "need" an overhaul just yet but Wenger is meant to be staying on til the end of next season at which stage we'll have Arteta (35), Rosicky (36), Cech (35), Mertesacker (32), Cazorla (32), Flamini (33), Debuchy (32), Koscielny (32), Giroud (31) and Monreal (31). 8 of those would currently make a matchday squad, how many still will then? Even all that is running to stay still, we're a club who haven't gotten into the 1/4s in Europe in the last 5 seasons. There's a lot to do and without the best player in the world to rely on I don't see why people would have such faith in Pep.

Who would you like to come in next?

Hard to know to be honest. If Wenger has even half the power and control he's meant to have then it's gonna be a massive challenge replacing/upgrading/creating the structures required at a top club in this day and age.

I think people are mad to dismiss Pep. His team is gonna stroll to their 3rd title in a row, he plays good football and doesn't leave clubs in a bad spot when he leaves. There is genuinely no better alternative. Unfortunately he's going to City

Very hard to say either way tbh.

I mean they were treble winners or whatever when he came in.

    Edit:

That's only whether he's improved Bayern or not.

I'd love him to come in.

He's a class act, plays football in the right way with a positive respectful approach.

No-one guarantees success. Let's at least have decent people at the top of the club.

Sad news with the passing of Don Howe former player and manager.
    RIP Don.

I personally really like Klopp and despite the mediocre return so far from Liverpool I think he is a class act. And I think if he gets a few decent players in will do really well in the future. I also really like his personality to boot....I think he could have done a good job at Arsenal TBH.

Isn't there whispers Wenger might sign a new contract?

Speak of manager, RIP Don Howe. Player, trainer, manager for Arsenal. Died today aged 80 after a long illness

Noted as a wonderful organiser who could get the best out of any player and lifelong servant of the club
