Okay, by the way my comments were about the Orel (Oryol) picture and I hadn't seen the new post when I posted, it came on line just before my post, so comments were not about the Santiago picture in case you thought they were. As for Orel being Oryol, that is new to me, I always knew the place as Orel from my history and geography studies half a century ago anyway, I suppose it's a more phonetic spelling they have now. The Kursk salient was probably the real Stalingrad event of the war, up until then the outcome of the war in Russia was not really settled despite the reversals at Stalingrad earlier. The losses and the resetting of the battle lines combined to seal the fate of Hitler's eastern armies which were then steadily in retreat afterwards.

Well done, you were very close yesterday.
I went there as part of a school trip when I was 13.
I can still very vividly remember the place and the sheer scale of so many crosses and how they were laid out.

The Eagle and faint outline of the grave stones on second pic gave it away. Cypress trees made it a bit of a challenge to locate though.

Here's an easy one from me. At least I think it's easy. Got to figure how to insert pic.

Cathedral of Notre-Dame du Puy, Le Puy-en-Velay.

The iron statue of Notre-Dame de France(The Virgin Mary) overlooking the town was designed by French sculptor Jean-Marie Bonnassieux, and is made from 213 Russian cannons taken in the Siege of Sevastopol (1854–1855).

Yes it is K.Flyer well done ! Beautiful little town in a volcanic area.

My father's family came from around there. The speciality in Le Puy is green lentils : "les lentilles du Puy". Lots of little villages with very large old farmhouses built of pink or purple-ish brown volcanic stone surround the place.

There are lots of volcanic "little" chimneys sticking out from the ground in the area, these are called " les sucs". http://www.office-de-tourisme-des-sucs-aux-bords-de-loire.fr/je-decouvre/nature-paysages/les-sucs-ces-volcans-endormis/

One of the St Jacques de Compostelle tracks passes through the area East of Le Puy.

To find the exact google location, go to the Cathedral cloitre and look up.

That is I think Piata Republicii or maybe it is Piata 1 Decembrie 1918 in Turda, Romania.
Not sure what street it is.

    Anyways it is Turda.

There is a nice Orthodox church over the bridge to the left of what is in shot in pic.

I am not allowed discuss …
