Its very emotive....but the drug is horrendously expensive.
It's pure economics, the Govt cannot afford every new wonder drug for every ailment.

Not what people want to hear, but its the truth

There has to be some ceiling on the cost of treating illnesses.

Sure, we all have to make choices in our personal lives as to what we can afford and should prioritise and governments are no different.

I thought all the lobbying might slow down after the budget but of course there's an election in the offing, so it'll just be a feature of the media it seems for the next few months.

Scrooged is Ray's favourite film. Why doesn't that suprise me one bit.

There are shop assisstants working in retail that are more interesting to listen to than D'Arcy's inane ramblings.

but about the Gay Byrne "joke" again, do they just replay it, or does he do it afresh every year ?

It's a disgrace Joe! They allowed a drug to be used on me and now I'm worse than I ever was.

It sounded identical today to the last several times I heard it, so no, it's not freshly done, I think.

Too much chance of that happening for it to be a truly live broadcast.

Joe's colleague Ciaran Mullooly of RTE news has a book out, printed by Turners Printing who are based in Longford. A small Irish company trying to turn over to a sustainable form of business and not worth the Duffy contract.

I've a load of books here from Roscommon writers or concerning Roscommon issues. Almost all of them printed in Ireland. Top quality work as well.

It's about money and nothing else. I wouldn't object to it except for the fact that he gets paid a fortune off the taxpayer, he's always going on about buying Irish and he's so quick to lay into people who get work done abroad.

I just despise two faced people.

    Aaah Ciaran is it.

Not the lad who was moonlighting with PK on the broadcasting training back in the day?

    Surely not.

Correction. Looks like it was Dobbo

Duffy is the worst kind of hypocrite from a certain strata of Irish society that think they can preach to everyone and yet live their own lives in a completely different way. These people normally come from one of two sources:
    1) those who are born rich
    2) those who are members of Fianna Fail

Fair play to him Kev. He always comes across as a fairly grounded guy anyway.

Whereas Duffy, my blood boils listening to him and his "man of the people" routine. Telling people to look up TalkToJoe1850 Twitter page, only to find a link to voting for his book in the Book Of The Year poll. That really got my blood boiling.

Just the subtle way he tried to orchestrate the vote in his favour. And this is the same man that throws his toys out of the pram if he feels that some nefarious group tries to load one of his own meaningless text polls.

Did Duffy read out the result on Friday of PBH's one and only text poll from the Friday before that?

Not that I heard. If it didn't suit the Great Man's agenda, it would have been quietly forgotten about - maybe that's why it didn't get announced in the first place; the whole nonsense about the text poll being overwhelmed is total bullocks, imo.

"A THOUSAND texts a minute" gushes Joe. In a country with a population of nearly 4 million, that means nothing. With a listenership of people mostly 50+ in the Dublin area, it means even less.

It's only impressive when you consider the technological skills of the average regular listener aged 50 and over.....using their calls as a benchmark for their stupidity....tbh I'm surprised that many of them can text. ;)

    Bit ageist there Butters?

Don't like that in a person.

Shows a touch of arrogance I can't warm to, to be honest.

Way to go out of your way to be offended!

Did I say everyone over 50? No. I qualified it. And if you're a regular listener you'll know the way the show itself treats technology and seniors, as well as how seniors themselves portray their interactions with technology on the show, then you'll know my comment is not far off the mark.

But hey, don't let my further clarification be satisfactory and continue being offended.

Give Joe a call on Monday to complain. Or maybe just chill out a little with the persecution complex?

Jeez, your own persecution complex seems to have kicked in here. Relax.

I'm not offended, just pointing out that that post displayed a trait which unfortunately permeates quite a bit through this site.

I will always challenge people who promulgate that kind of cack.

No. I was defending myself against an accusation of ageism - there is a difference.

You're the guy weighing in and you're not even involved! Perfect lahv lahn caller,"it wasn't directed at me Joe but I'm offended".

Do you actually think I believe everyone over 50 can't text or something? I have previously written on this thread how my dad (in his late 60s) is perfectly IT literate and self sufficient, yet other callers to the show of his age and younger make out like using the Internet is some kind of sorcery mixed with devil worship - all egged on by the host I might ad.

And perhaps you missed the subtleties of tone and intent? I was being sarcastic FFS.

Not arguing with you on this anymore. I know what my intent was. If you want to accuse me of ageism any further you can. I like I'm not like that.

This thread is all about people who are not involved in Liveline weighing in with comments.

    You are a sensitive soul.

No, I've made my point, others can judge after reading the post.
