Small Lambs

    Sorry, rookie question. Have 3 or 4 really small lambs here (23kg) out of about 50. Is this normal? Some of these look quite poorly and keep getting stuck in briars.

    You'll always get a few, no matter how many ewes you have. With me it happens when the lambs don't get enough milk or sometimes a mineral deficiency. I had a good few one year and it was because of a selenium deficiency so might be the problem.

    Check ewes for mastitis aswell,had a big powerful ewe with a great bag of milk doing a very bad job of rearing 2 lambs,checked her elder at the end of the summer when we were weaning the rest of the lambs and she had big lumps.She didnt last to long after that.

    Made a bad mistake not checking her when the lambs were failing
