kernal_task high CPU usage

    Hi,

    I don't know if anyone can help me but I have a Late 2011 MBP. Last month I booted up my MBP and noticed it took forever to load into the OS. Also the CPU fans were up to the max sounding like a Boeing 747 taking off:pac::pac::pac:. This is unusual because I have a SSD in it and it normally opens super quick. When I eventually go into the desktop everything was running super slow. I opened up Activity Monitor to find that kernal_task was taking up about 600% of the CPU resources:eek::eek::eek:. Now I have tried everything, I installed El Capitan from scratch with the same outcome.

    There is a fix to repair the laggy performance by removing the Macbook8.2 plist from the system but the fans are still going full throttle. Could it be a hardware fault, the fans etc that could be the problem?

    Have you tried resetting the SMC ?

    Also look in system preferences > Users & Groups > (your user name) > Login Items and disable everything in there.

    Do you have any Anti Virus installed by the way ? Norton is known to cause havoc on the Mac. Does turning off WiFi and disconnecting from the internet make any difference ?

    Also, how much free space do you have on the SSD ? They don't like being nearly full.

    Hi Ken,

    I have tried resetting the SMC to no avail. There is nothing on the laptop as I have just reinstalled a fresh version of El Capitan. I've tried turning off the Wi-Fi and disconnecting form the internet but nothing seems to be changing

    My mid 2010 pro did this recently, turned out the hard drive was faulty, wasn't a ssd hardrive just the normal original one. New hardrive and all is good again
