I only became aware after VV was dropped this season, I had to go look it up. So saying I was aware but LVG wasn't is false. I only recently became aware of it.

but if you looked it up you were surely aware he had fallen out with van gaal before

I find it funny the posters giving LVG credit for Smalling's improvement were the ones claiming he wasnt good enough and should be sold.

Are they the same posters though or is that just some throwaway comment?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3163429/Victor-Valdes-Louis-van-Gaal-spat-not-time-Manchester-United-duo-fallen-following-2002-clash-Barcelona.html

Refused to play for the B-Side, fell out with Van Gaal. Similar to what Van Gaal says happened this time around

So VV refused to play for the reserves (acted like a dick) and LVG rightly dropped him. Don't see a problem there.

Oh and LVG brought VV back into the first team, made peace with him and then VV went on to become Barca’s greatest ever stopper.

Sounds like LVG manged it perfectly. Maybe he thought VV would have learned not test him a 2nd time with refusal, especially with DDG the best keeper in the world ahead of him, but it turns out VV acted like a dick yet again and LVG rightly dropped except this time there is no need to bring him back.

Perfectly managed by LVG, poor attitude by VV, look at Falcao for a good attitude VV.

What exactly are you guys saying LVG did wrong here and what would you have him do?

If your dislike of LVG is so strong and this is the best you can do to show him as a poor manager your argument is very very weak.

    wtf is your problem?

I simply said they had fallen out. That is a report stating they had. Valdes was dropped from the first team, fell out with LVG over, and it was eventually sorted out. I said nothing about his current treatment of Valdes.

I personally don't like how Valdes has been treated, but i've made no comment on it today. You asked for more info, I provided it. that is all that occurred, and you start saying i've a weak weak argument. I made no fecking argument.

That alongside your constant name calling

You've done nothing all day but froth about people having the temerity to criticise LVG. Had a bad weekend?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,002 ✭✭✭beno619

Can you back that up with previous posts of those posters saying Smalling wasn't good enough with quotes from the same posters giving him credit now?

    I highly doubt it.

People big enough to admit they were wrong already have. Where did you stand on the issue ?

When people are making crazy statements like "worst football in 30 years" and we are in "crisis" "lvg out" etc etc after a home draw and lsating him when he is actually building something good here you can expect people to defend him.

That's not true. People calling him out and booing is not based on single game.

You said it, or butted into, a conversation I was having with another poster who was slating LVG and saying he's a fool if he didn't know of it or brought VV knowing his previous behaviour.

So context is important here, you came into back up his point.

So if you and the other guy can only point to LVG correctly managing a player with a poor attitude and making him to go on to be a great player, as LVG managing the situation poorly, well then yeah my point still stands, its a weak non argument from your side and you would have been better off saying nothing and not looking foolish.

If we scored a goal yday we would be top of the league. The atmosphere in here would be very different. So a lot of the over the top stuff goes on game to game in here.

Some of us see whats happening, its a work in progress thats not finished yet, some like what LVG is building towards.

Some ignore all that because we didn't score and want LVG out. Its shortsighted and cringeworthy.

a home draw with west ham.
    an away draw to leicester
    a home draw with PSV

    Not too far removed from...

consecutive draws for Middlesborough (getting knocked out of the cup), City, CSKA and a humiliating defeat to Arsenal.

Very good chance we will be knocked out of the CL tomorrow night too.

To suggest any dissatisfaction with LVG and United is based on one game is ridiculous.

But had we played to our potential in the previous games then people wouldn't have worried much about West Ham game. It was not one off. It's a recurring theme.

You think fans at old trafford booed just because we drew against West Ham? These are the same fans who still cheered for Moyes until he got sacked.

    • 3rd in the league
    • 3 points behing the false leaders (the foxes)
    • 1 point behind Arsenal
    • best defense in the EPL
    • one goal conceded at home all season
    • unbeaten in all comps since oct 5th
    • 3 goals let in since oct 5th
    • highest avg possesion in the league
Yeah its a real horror show under LVG.

You only want to ignore facts and focus on the negative, not suprising you have a history of it.

Aye, I've been ridiculed in here and other forum's for being so much of an optimist at times, but I really lost patience this weekend. It's just so frustrating to watch.

So we have Smalling who has improved under Van Gaal, and Ashley Young who played better for Van Gaal than Moyes. (No goals or assists mind, but he did the job asked of him).

Anybody else? Who has Van Gaal coached into a better player?

If those fans cheering Moyes think we were better off let them think it. What LVG has got in the works is much better, we are not there yet, the attack needs sorting. He has the possession style and defense doing well. When the attack is sorted we will be a very tough team to play against.

Moyes had none of the tactical ability to do what LVG is doing. Cheering Moyes and booing LVG achieves nothing.

The fans are annoyed with the lack of goal. Once LVG gets the attack going the fans will be more then happy with LVG. It requires patience, something badly lacking in the average football fan.

Maybe we won't win the EPL, maybe we might go out of the UCL tomorrow but with whats being put in place eventually good things will come. If LVG can finish his master plan people will be very very happy.

playing poor football, with a poor scoring record - creating few good chances, though the manager is happy with the amount of chances we are created.

Highest number of passes per shot on target.

    Amongst the fewest shots taken.

    Amongst the few chances created.

Possession doesn't win football games, as we are seeing quite often this season.

Yes, we are third in the league - but the play has been rubbish and there is no reason we should not expect better from United and LVG after three tranfer windows, a crap load of money and a bunch of decisions he made (such as getting rid of Welbeck, Hernandez, Falcao, Van Persie and Wilson, and only bringing in Martial).

It isn't all doom and gloom no, but it isn't all brilliance and reasons to be nowt but delighted.

United have become a very easy side to defend against, as evidence by the number of goals we are scoring. If we had a competent attack to match the competent defence we'd be well clear at the top.

And needing to beat Wolfsburg away to come out of a mikey mouse group in the c.l..... If we Dont come out of the group and end up with Europa league it will be a disaster. Even Moyes got us out of the group.

Progress me h**e. Dog and duck group and we struggling.

Also how many points per game do we get or having highest average possession???

All your facts above mean absolutely nothing.

If we fail to qualify to morrow night do you see that as progress as well????

    Ok some middle ground finally.

Its not all brilliance, I never claimed it was. Its a work in progress as i have said many times.

The attack is the last stage. Like I said LVG is changing the culture of the club, turning us into a possesion team that can control games. Right now we cannot finish chanes to win games.
    He needs to fix this.

For me the answer lies in the transfer market, simply buy better attackers

but once he does can you guys not see the benefit of being able to control games with a solid defense and functioning attack? We win most games we score in that scenario.

Having the highest average possession is worth nothing with the attacking stats we have. Its embarrassing having the lowest amount of shots and such a low amount of goals. I think we need to sacrifice some of this possession and take some more attacking risks/passes in the final third.
I'm delighted with our improvements defensively but we need to be more creative and willing to take risks with our attacking play

This is not Moyes Vs Van Gaal point, I totally agree with you on that though. Van Gaal is way ahead of Moyes. It's just that fans were patient and cheered for Moyes but after 18 months of poor football they started booing. It has nothing to do with 1 game.

Master plan? I hated it when Arsenal fans blindly talked about their 10 year plan. There is no master plan or something. He is buying good players but somehow failed to find a proper solution attackingwise.

Because they aren't going to win the league, credit to them this far but they wont win it.

Again, I was thinking long term past this weekend, not exactly your strong point.
