Was just wondering how many of you used one and if you have any interesting stories. Used one with a group of friends today and was pretty freaky!!

It's just the power of suggestion plus the ideomotor effect. Combine over active imaginations & (I'm guessing here) a few drinks & it's amazing what you can convince yourself of. In reality ouija boards are a load of parlour trick bunkum.

When we were 13/14 me and a mate played one with two girls. We were trying to convince them that playing hide the sausage was a great idea.

Cindy was only thirteen. She was the middle child within a large, devoutly Christian family. She had three older sisters, a younger sister and a younger brother. At some point during the eighth grade, a friend let her borrow a Ouija board one weekend, and that weekend Cindy and her older sisters played with the board. They did so in secret, late at night, because they knew how strongly their parents would disapprove. That weekend, the mysterious talking board mesmerized Cindy. Cindy became obsessed with it. She could think of nothing else and soon had a list of questions that she wanted to ask the board.

Cindy had an hour every day after school where she was alone in the house before her older sisters returned from high school. So Monday afternoon right after getting home from school, she cautiously crept up to her room, set up the Ouija board on her bed and gently laid her fingertips on top of the pointer. After just ten minutes of sitting quietly, the planchette started to jerk softly across the board. It spelled out, "H-I". Cindy's breath caught in her throat.

"Hi," she answered. "Who are you?"

"J-A-K-E"

A shock ran through Cindy. Jake was a friend of hers who had died in a car accident in the fourth grade.
Jake, is it really you?" Cindy sat up, her arms shaking with excitement. The pointer moved quickly up to "YES".

Over the next hour, Cindy held a conversation with "Jake". Every day after school, Cindy would race up to her room and have a conversation with Jake about her life and about her future. But after a few days, the conversations became darker and angrier. By the second week, Cindy had the impression that she wasn't talking with Jake, but instead with a dark and terrible imposter. Finally, by the end of the second week, the entity revealed itself as a demon and threatened Cindy that if she told anyone about their conversations she would die. That Friday night, when her sisters got home, they found Cindy curled up in a corner crying. It took a week in a mental facility before Cindy could recover from the emotional damage that the "entity" caused her during those two fateful weeks of her childhood.

theres loads of stories like this and very very few are positive ones.

stay away from it would be my advice.

Do you have a verified source for that story? I'd say the parents' filling her with Christian claptrap probably did Cindy just as much if not more harm than the ouija board.

Never mind predicting the future, I'd be impressed if these "entities" could tell us something about the past. For instance, has anyone ever been able to contact a murder victim & got them to reveal who their killer was? How about the spirit of someone who went missing & was probably dead. Surely a sceance could pinpoint the location of their body.

The fact that there's never anything more interesting than spelling out of names & yes/no answers shows what a load of nonsense this stuff is -there's never been any actual findings from sceances/ouija boards that can be verified in the real world.

There was a craze for these many years ago when I was at college.

Did it quite often with a group of friends - we all used to put our fingers lightly on it.
It often felt creepy but I think - I hope - that it was just "groupthink" working together to create an illusion. We all seemed to want to get messages from the Beyond!

I did hear one slightly unsettling story connected with it but the person it happened to was superstitious so, maybe, it was imaginary.

Even if NOT supernatural, group experimentation with expressing things from the subconscious is likely to be risky. Proceed with caution!

Been using one for years. Have regular chats with the dead. Entities regularly turn up trying to drive me insane. Very scary.

I just made all that up.

The real problem with ouija boards is the sort of freaky living human beings it brings you into contact with.

Think about it, if these things were actually real it wouldn't be some silly board game people play with and invent stories about. There would be entire religions based around it never mind science would now have evidence of ghosts or whatever. All they'd have to do is bring the thing into a lab and talk to the ghosts.

I don't mean that in a nasty way but in a scientific way. Here you have the ability to perform a repeatable test.

What year did the child die?

What was the childs name? etc etc etc etc

Try switching it up even. You all assumed going into this that you will be talking to ghosts. How about talking to Aliens? Go at it from that angle. And sure enough you'll get alien results.

Remember its all a narrative made up by yourself by the questions your all shouting. What actual details come back outside of yes and no?

I tried one before. It spelt out I-t-s-a-m-e-l-u-i-g-i.

Looked at the box and it turns out we got a Luigi board instead, last time I get them on special from aldi.

i found it where else but on the internet.not my story and i dont know if its true.
i believe there is something to these boards and i wouldnt go near one if you paid me.theres two sides to them imo.
one is where you use it and something actually happens while using it,who knows maybe it could maybe it couldnt.
but the other more dangerous side is your imagination.did that planchette move by itself?did that curtain move even though the window isnt open?or what was that noise etc etc.
that could drive anyone insane imo which in turn could keep you going back to the board and keep you using it,driving you cuckoo the more you use it.
and i certainly wouldnt treat it as just another board game.

It would only drive you mad if you were too foolish to actually go & find out what was really happening. The ideomotor effect is a well established phenomenon. Being scared by a ouija board is like worrying where a conjurer keeps his rabbit when he's not pulling it out of his empty hat.

But this is all confirmation bias and all in someones head. You are in control of your own thoughts and once you master this you'll realize how silly this is.

The more superstitious you are the more damage you'll cause to yourself by attributing everything around you to some invisible man in the sky, or evil spirit in a board game. The more ruled by fear you become.

Knowledge is the true destroyer of fear.

Instead of reading all the creepy pasta stories about them, read scientific journals instead.

This stuff is actually fascinating from a psychological perspective.

The child died in 1943 and his first name Began with P and his surname was Hillary but he didn't tell use much else about himself..

I have no way of proving it but I don't believe anybody was moving it..
