Opening basta lock with minimal damage

    Looking for suggestions.

My shed is locked with an old basta lock from the 1960s , the kind with a lever handle and lock usually used for interior doors. The key has been lost and I cant get into the shed anymore.

This is the kind of key (you need to add the w w w start... .adverts.ie/locks-latches/basta-internal-door-key/3426837 ).

I really want to avoid smashing the door. Any suggestions on how to open it with minimal damage?

There's only 16 different types AFAIK. you can buy them for about €1.50 each.

Didn't know about woodies but any local hardware that cuts keys will give you the set. They normally charge me €50. As colm says, theres only a set amount (might be more than 16 though) but no point in buying the lot when you only need the 1 !

as above. Local key cutting place will give you a set and charge a deposit until you drop them back and buy the ones you want.

You could open this with a hangar!
My aul dear used to lock us in the bedroom if we were getting out of hand as kids, and at that early age I developed the fine skills of picking a Basta lock with a hangar. :D

I think there's a few more than 16 combinations, as some have letters too (the key profile is the opposite) but most of the key shops will lend you a bunch with a deposit, as mentioned above.
