Unfortunately not but I do find the name very unusual but hey, the world's a crazy place.

I remember when I was a kid and my pal and I were talking to this other little girl from down the road.

She was always lying about stupid things for no reason. She was about 8 I think.

Anyway she told us that she had a new sister. We knew this was not true. She went on for ages telling us about her new sister. We said "what's her name then?" This flustered her a bit and she said "eh eh..... Juntin"

So we said "your sisters name is Juntin?" and she said "yep that's her name".

African people who aren't English speakers do sometimes give their kids names like this. I had neighbours in Balbriggan who had a daughter called Magnificent and son called Marvellous. South African friend called Innocent too.

I'll bet she'll be a right cúnt when she grows up.

No need to get into a flap over it.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Amelia is now on the top ten names for babies in Ireland, lovely name but I can't help but think, isn't it French? Just something in my mind that says to me that it doesn't suit Irish girls.

Also my cat is named Amelia. I got her from a French women of the same name. I didn't know how popular it was when I named her! It works out amusingly for me because all those name things, like "Santa Stop Here For Amelia" etc, my mother buys all of them for me. My landlord loves it. We usually call her Ham though, or Meelzebub when she's being evil.

    Not a kids name but a local tombstone i saw the other day;

Honoria McDonnagh (born 1920!). I guess there was always a few, even back then.:pac:

My grandfathers names were Wilfred and Alphonsis. Neither got carried on into the later generations. One of my uncles has Wilfred as a middle name, and my grandad was utterly offended when the first great grand child was called Darragh and not Wilfred. My father is Francis, a kinder version of Alphonsis I guess! Some names need to die out in a family, like bad genes.

    Isis.

Isis is a beautiful name. It's known as the name of the supreme Egyptian goddess of the moon, sky, magic and motherhood.

T'is all a bit subjective though. I think Honoria is a nice name, not that I'd inflict it on a child nowadays! Isis is nice-sounding, but it's a bit too exotic for my tastes - leaving aside ISIL altogether (yeah, yeah, Honoria doesn't sound exotic in the same way to me!). There's been a lot of slagging of Irish names, most of which I think are lovely! And I like a lot of the latter-tradition African names, like Innocence and Favour, although Desire does nothing for me as a name. OK, I wouldn't name any of my sprogs that, but I wouldn't name them Hans or Olaf either!

...I think we can all get together on Labia though. Crikey and a half.

There's a lot of older names that have died off now that I quite like the sounds of - is Philomena reeeally weirder than Samantha? Or Julian odder than Julia.

I'm a bit sick of Mary as a name, for all there's nothing -weird- about it. But Moon Unit and all the unfortunate kids of Bob Geldof take a good portion of the cake.

Edit: Actually, if it comes to that, "Samaris" is a real name too, just a very uncommon one now. I like the sound of it!

Amelia is the English version of the French Amélie (my daughter's name...she's half French :D)

I knew that and I still think it's a mank name.

There was a newsreader on Newstalk the other day called 'Gee-shock'

    ...well it sounded like Geeshock.

Maybe somebody could enlighten us as to how its really spelt.

Are you referring to this? It's always on the traffic news... never heard of a newsreader with such a name...

    http://galway-community-college.education.community.galway.tel/
Galway Community College, Móinín na gCiseach, Galway

It ends up pronounced as "mow-neen na geesha/gee-shock" on the traffic news but looking at that spelling should be "...na gih-shock"

Took a while to find the correct spelling but think you mean Caoimhseach Connolly
    Seems to be pronounced Quee-shock.
Poor girl must have found that tough

A friend of mine lives and works in Kerry. While pregnant on her first child she got talking to a young girl with a new baby. She complimented her on her child and asked her the baby's name.

Lady GaGa McCarthy (I sh1t you not!!)

Other names I hate; Arianna, Amber, sonnie, and double barrel names really annoy me; Lily-rose, Rosie-May etc.
    Ugh

The whole double-barrel first name thing seems to be a new phenomenon in the "full time mammy" world. And it's nearly always Rose/May/Mae as the middle name. Sorry but it just sounds as common as much.

Koa Brooklyn Blu is one I recently came across on FB. Yes they're Irish, yes it's a boy, and yes they're all his first names.

In the future, this Labia girl should definitely find a Ulick and get married.
