Alcove Units

Hi all Would appreciate advice on how best to decorate alcove units. How to put it together, how to layer, what theme etc. I know what I like when I see it but it's hard to put it together. I'm not a big fan of inspirational quote thingy-ma-jigs. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

You're not giving much information - what room? What type of property? How is the rest of the room decorated? What do you like?
