Hi JacEim, you had loads in the tank on Monday so providing you recover well this month and follow a structured 10 mile plan, I'd say go for sub 70. You're going to capitalise on your post marathon fitness while also improving steadily anyway between now and March anyway.

Consistency and structure. Go for it :)

    Ps what calculator?
Pps imo, Jack Daniels is better for calculating training paces. Well, that's my coach's opinion really.... :)

    Thanks
    I was just using Mcmillan.
I think the VDOT tools have me at 71mins based off my 4M time... but considering I wasn't training for speed work at all then this should be achievable ?

Definitely. You are currently in much better shape than I was at the same stage last year. I did 69:2x in April off no specific training. I'd say you could end up in 67:xx shape by March and that's being a little conservative.

Ah Now... this is the kind of stuff I expect from Clearlier, not my voice of reason :)
Thanks for the vote of confidence!!

    How are people feeling?

Someone said to me there that they hoped my recovery was going well, I said with how I feel today I wouldn't actually know I did a marathon this day last week. Since Saturday I have feeling pretty fine with all stiffness now gone thankfully!
My knee I would say is in the high 90s but obviously not been running on it since last Monday but my quads hurt a lot more than it.
Another week off for me and will ease back into it then with an easy run or two before I go back to the physio. Would love to go for a run but will do what I'm told.

Also thinking about that Ballycotton 10 miler, a few people have recommended it to me but we'll see.

Feeling the same, like I never ran a marathon at all.

Mentally though am in a real funk and struggling to get out of it!

Will be going for very easy 15-20 minute jogs starting Wednesday. Hopefully that will help!

I went out for 2.5 on Saturday and it was tough, in that I wasn't in pain, but the effort levels were much higher than they should have been. I might go out Wednesday.

I'm hoping to do the Ballycotton 10 mile too!

I'm feeling really good. Had a good relaxing weekend with swimming and hill walking (may have run up and down one or two little hills :p). Will take heed of the advice to take the rest of this week off from anything strenuous.

Brain has been non stop making plans and thinking about goals and how best to achieve them.

I've made a little enquiry about a house in youghal that my parents stay in during the summer to see if it would be available for the first weekend in March ;)

I think that's understandable really as it was such a high, I had a few days off work after it and then was very busy for the rest of the week with a wedding on Saturday so not really had too much time to miss running yet.

Definitely getting out as that was your routine for over half the year if even for a walk would be something good I think. I'd recommend a coastal route if you can, sea air sort you right out!

PS TFGR, well done on the radio! You spoke really well. Did Pat Kenny tell you his daughter is a runner?

Interesting. Thankfully, I'm within easy driving distance :D

Also, thanks very much for the little memento. Lovely gesture :)

if at all possible, back to Connemara. Who's up for a 2015 graduates reunion on the Hell of the West?

How about the full? maybe? No time pressure on it as it's too unpredictable to put a figure on. Just a 26 mile LSR :)

Did the ballycotton10 last year and loved it cherish my ballycotton mug none of this tshirt and medal stuff in Ballycotton you get a mug for finishing. Course is lovely locals are all out supporting and it finishes back in the village. Be warned you get in a queue for on line as entry is restricted so if you are doing it you will need to sign up on the day and wait your turn. As regards how recovery is going did find myself at a bit of a loose end this weekend with no running to do. Volunteered at St Annes park run Saturday and met chops and PJD all of us sporting our dcm tops of course. Definately hitting post marathon blues. Signed up for jingle bells 5 km. went out for a very slow 3 miles sunday was surprised how sore the legs still were for the first miles but they loosened out. Going for sports massage tonight. Hope everyone else's recovery is going well. Did we really do a marathon last week :)

Just back from my first 3 miles post marathon and it was awesome, God I love running!!!

Big toe still not 100% though so will take it handy with the running, have a couple of gym classes booked anyway.

I would definitely be up for Ballycotton, I love the place!!

Was telling a new friend about this whole novice thing at the weekend, he was seriously impressed with the set-up!

This might interest some here. From the Ballycotton 10 Facebook page:

Have had a nice few walks this week lovely stroll at the beach yesterday. I went out for my first run since Monday today, did a nice easy 5k with the dog wore my dcm top it's a bit on the big side though. Can't see myself making ballycotton I hope to do the bundoran 10 mile around the same time though.

I haven't recovered as quickly as some of you guys on here. There is still a little soreness in the leg muscles. I was hoping to do a couple of miles today but took the advice available on this thread and said I will wait until all muscle soreness is gone. Went for a swim instead. I'll see how I am tomorrow and hopefully I'll be okay to do a couple of miles. Can't wait to get back to running.

Got out for an easy 5km this morning. Legs are working fine and I re-connected with my leg muscle groups. A little residual tiredness and stiffness there but it eased out nicely. Felt tired later in the day and am putting it down to the run and a need to get more sleep.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭KillianByrne

The more experienced here will correct me if I'm wrong but while you may feel pretty decent now, your muscles are still recovering deep down on a cellular level and you don't want to disrupt that. By all means go for a run, but keep it quite easy. Keep the blood flow up but don't stress things. As was mentioned before, 1 day for every hard mile raced, so thats 26days of easy stuff.

Anyway, you've all just run a marathon, get out, enjoy the weather (hot or cold as it may be where you live) and run because you enjoy it rather than having to run because the plan says so.

Remember, it really wasn't that long ago when 5k or 10k seemed like a loooong way to run.

Looking for an answer here. When I registered for the marathon I checked the box to add finisher pix to the total cost I paid. Finisherpix are now asking me to send them a confirmation of payment in the form of a pdf before they send me the downloads. But I didn't get any such thing. Did I just miss out or did something go awry? Anyone any advice?

Want my picture but don't want to have to pay again! Especially seeing as the one my friend took of me running by her was actually nicer than the finisher pix one!

Woah, sorry to hear that engol, sounds a bit dodge to me. I would have thought that the onus is on finisherpix to keep a record. Anyone?

You might cast your net wider and take this over the the 'Random Running Questions' thread....

That describes my easy 3M on Sunday just about perfect! Keep those miles easy, folks, for a week or two still.

Have a little bit of catching up to do (another curveball  ) but you guys sound like you are really revving up....as KillianByrne said....sloooooow doooooown ;)

Enjoy your rest this month and by all means make plans, that's what this month is for!

In a week or 10 days, you can start the Graduates of DCM 2015 thread. I volunteer nop to get this up and running round about the 20th, that ok N?!
I have a very experienced graduate mentor for you guys, you are in great hands, really great hands. Very excited about this!

So when the new thread is started, you can get to know each other (you already do a bit ;) ) and start your new programmes in December. Deal?!
