Nine people have been arrested in connection with a garda investigation into illegal coursing at a number of locations in Tipperary.

A number of "Lurcher” breed dogs have been seized along with equipment involved in this illegal activity.

The people were arrested following a joint operation by An Garda Siochana and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

They were arrested and are currently detained under the Provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended for offences under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 at Cahir, Thurles, Tipperary, Templemore and Clonmel Garda Stations.

According to a garda spokesperson, “This operation targeted persons who illegally trespass on lands with Lurcher dogs and engage in offences contrary the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 and carries a penalty of up to five years imprisonment on indictment.”

Anyone with information on this or any other crime can contact Thurles Garda Station 0504-25100, their local Garda Station or Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

A relation of mine's house was nearly broken into yesterday.
He was gone to hospital for an appointment and his wife stayed at home.
Anyway his brother thought they were all gone and as he lives beside them came in the back way to check on the place because they were robbed before.
He was coming round the corner to the front of the house and there was two men wearing balaclavas and one was carrying a slash hook walking towards the house.
If I was him and came face to face them I don't know what I would have done.
He shouted out at them and luckily they turned and ran. They left in a pickup they left running at the front gates. I don't have a description of the pickup.
It's a good chance that they could have been the same one's who robbed the place before.

Can't be 100% on this of course but chances are that once they realised that someone was there they would have left as it becomes aggravated burglary then if someone is present in the property. Most chances wait till it house is empty so that if they are caught it's just burglary which has a much less punishment

The gards told them they carry slash hooks to cut the wires to alarm, camera etc. and for their own " protection".

They'd want it if they came into our area. Few lads got the good news around here before

I'd say If you faced two guys with balaclavas and a slashhook, you'd be well within your rights to open fire.

What is wrong in this country that people seem to think they have the right to rob left ,right and centre? Is it that there are not enough guards or are they not being brought to court. Seems alot of people can do what they want

I'd say it's the very little chance of being caught or proven without doubt that it was them in court
