The great unspoken difference between USA and Ireland is the dole

Boxers here are taxpayer funded in more ways than one, Stateside they HAVE to turn pro, ergo their best are not amateurs and therefore don't go to the olympics

Socialist states like Ireland and Cuba therefore appear to thrive in boxing, but not in the real pro cash world

Yes. It's a private venture. Nothing to do with RTÉ at all.

Hey Butters, how are things. I know I've been slagging him about the fact that it is a private enterprise, but he presenting it to everybody as if it's a public service that he's done and a tribute to the families of the dead. I find it hard to believe that he wouldnt give any money back ?

Joe speaks to dvcireland about the time he saw Billy Walsh in TK MAxx

".....a small dapper man, stylish, a great eye for a bargain...."

Its crazy stuff, why not pay the man the money he is worth FFS and lets go win some medals in Rio.

Pathetic Irish bullsh1t again. Couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

They're definitley missing a trick here then. They should become phone operators. 75mins a day, 4 days a week, 30 weeks a year for €360,000 would allow them the cash to hire the best coaches and train in the best facilities, and the 75mins a day wouldn't interfere with their training time at all. Like Joe, they could treat it as rest or down-time and maybe even do the crossword while they're at it......so to speak.

If he'd a conscience at all, he wouldn't sleep easily knowing he's in receipt of a fantastic amount of money (ten times the average worker's wage) for blathering and pressing buttons for a few hours a week. In fact, a conscientious individual would donate at least half of that money to a charity - and other earnings from private book sales, too.

Well I don't know definitively that he's not giving any monies to charidee so to speak, but I haven't heard anything to the contrary yet so to speak.

I have long suspected of Joe that despite being rich far beyond any talent or ability he possesses, that he's actually from Cavan (sic) and not Ballyer. He's a great man for giving other people's money away and taking credit for it, but he never seems forthcoming or giving himself so to speak. I have posted on this previously.

A friend of mine was at a Microsoft speech a few weeks back, and was told that they had the choice of Jim McGuinness, Billy Walsh or Gordon D'Arcy... And McGuinness was the cheapest !!

Mick comes out fighting, but gets hit with a quick uppercut from the former Lord Mayor. Now Mick starts dancing, in steps that Billy taught him, and I don't mean Billy Barrie. The referee has gone quiet, as he often does. Doesn't look like there is going to be a bad line knockout in this one. It'll go to the final bell.
