Shaven head. Seemed like a good guy. He took a fall back in the UK whilst out drinking, and hit his head. Died shortly afterwards apparently.

theres a couple of guys with a radio show called Car Talk.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_Talk

they were both engineers from MIT that got bored and went into the garage trade, anyway the show went on from the 80's till around 2012...until one of them died.

here is a pod cast i dont know how to download but its streamable but im sure you genieasses here will solve that.

it is a truly great show, especially if you like american cars and listening to two normal guys talk about car problems in a funny gentle way.
it may take a show or two to get into it, but its well worth it.

For those who just love the Ed China bits I'd recommend trying to dig out Mark Evans' "A Car is Reborn" where he does a nut and bolt restoration of a Jag E Type or "An MG is Born" where he gives an MGB roadster the same treatment. Stunning attention to detail and almost entirely focused on the oily bits.

The intros etc. are hilariously dated but the attention to detail in the restorations is amazing and there's loads to be learned from it (finally taught me what Top Dead Centre meant!)

Nah. That was a guy called sandy I think.
He had cancer prior to the show but I believe he is fine.
Ricky was the jock 'lookalike' - only due to the bald head.

Really? Surprised to hear that. Ed seems like a very competent mechanic.

Find that hard to believe being an he is a engineer and having watched him live at NEC to. He knew what he was doing at NEC and had no help with work there. Sure he run a workshop for Brewer's garage before opening one of his own.

I will say is welding is average compared to some, some the work I seen needed a quite a bit of tidying up before paint. Having said that he is an all rounder so good at everything but great at something.

I agree i think he is more of an old school mechanic and as mentioned several times over the years he learned his trade on the air cooled vws over the years.

Usually it's something like "these titanium handbrake cables don't come cheap at £800 but they'll make the car much easier to sell"

you and me both!!!i'd love to know what goes on behind the scenes/off camera?for example the first 15 minutes of the show is all about searching for and buying the car, parts 2 & 3 "doing it up" and the 4th part they head on some sort of adventure/day out berfore selling it on,so all that work crammed into 30 minutes of tv time yet in reality it is probably weeks from start to finish if it's a big job.

For those interested, I'd also recommend Campervan Crisis, a 5 part series focusing on the restoration of a 1965 Devon Volkswagon Camper:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGVG5zF7fSk&list=PLuf3fQY3LEX5962KT6WaJ0sjqf4WyeKga

There was a companion series Beetle crisis which followed a similar format on a Beetle:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_W76DTsMQE

If anyone has suggestions of similar shows where the focus is on the cars and the mechanics rather than the "hilarious" antics of the guys doing the work, I'd love to hear about them?
