I feel at this stage it's my right to tell people how awful uplay is. I will actually take the title on uwontplay if that's acceptable to others

That's why it's at the bottom of the pile in my list of digital distribution software that I use (or don't use - whatever).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,953 ✭✭✭✭Skerries

yeah I keep seeing Watch Dogs coming up at a cheap price and the thought of using uplay puts me off

I will go out of my way to avoid Uplay even if I really wanted to play a game, the stick of truth comes to mind.. I also avoided the Ubisoft humble bundle due to lack of steam keys.. And there was a few good games in that one :/

It's a horrible platform and I really dont see why they have it, I can see why EA has Origin and it's not so bad (Only use it for BF), but my god Uplay is atrocious.. I remember when I tried to purchase a game a while back through it (think it was far cry 3 on sale) and it wouldn't accept my card, ended up buying something on steam instead.

I kinda went off on one there but my point is it's an awful platform and it's best avoided.

The Stick of Truth uses Steamworks. No matter where you buy the game, it registers on Steam and doesn't need Uplay.

Yeah saw this the other day, group of modders came together to make there own game and this is there first title.

Looks promising,as usual early access cavets apply though. Id like to know more about it and see how far along it actually is before i took the plunge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Nope, took the plunge this time. Of the games I've backed through kickstarter or early access, everyone I have has made it out to play: Energy Hook, Fractured Space (both were ok) Massive Chalice (addicting on a rainy weekend), Planetary Annihilation, Kerbal Space Program, Mighty No. 9, and Prison Architect. Sir, I pick winners*. Get this.

*The Stomping Land was the only flop, but it did make it to a functional release, if totally ****. Also backed Heavy Gear early in kickstarter's life but it never made its funding goals.

At least in the case of AFF, its based on an established mod so its success chances are very good.

Have a few early access games myself, not against them per say. I just exercise a bit more caution now deciding what ones to pick up and more importantly when to pick them up. I can wait a few weeks and see if the dev is actually squashing bugs, adding content etc and make a more informed purchasing decision. Missing out on a month or two at the start is not a problem for me.

The idea of the game and the basic implementation look pretty good, but i will say i have seen reports of it not everything working properly yet.

In saying all that there is always gonna be the odd game that i cant help myself and buy immediately, almost grabbed Empyrion:GS but looking back at it now i think i was better off waiting for the moment. As the game still needs a good bit of work. As can be the case with some very early access games

Ill defo be keeping an eye on Angels Fall First though, let us know how you get on with it when you get to grips with it

    have you played it yet?

I was considering it the other day with the discount on Steam

New Steam client update allows you to add a mobile number to your Steam account. You can use it to gain access to your account if you don't have access to your email account. Handy and quite useful if worst comes to the worst but it doesn't work. Well done Valve.

Edit: Okay it does but it wants it formatted as +35386 123 4567. If you do it without the spaces it gives an error message.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

It now also has a game library filter now for Steam VR

interestingly no  my long-toothed intuition is kicking in on this one, I just got a feeling about the game. About to though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Well holy **** I just loaded up the client and I will say these few things before I dive in

    1. buy it - it's a bargain

    2. your first thoughts once entering the tutorial: 'holy ****, the loading screen is a stargate wormhole', 'the writers for this game were loving fans of things like Homeworld', 'Am I back at Black Mesa? Thank god.'

    3. the client is pretty stable (as it should be using Unreal engine)

    edit:

The grenade launcher tricked me into feeling recoil in real life... and it would be more accurate to call it a C4 Shotgun. And they put a lot of attention into the gun range portion of the tutorial - did I mention I haven't even left the tutorial and this game is already sucking me in? the weapons feel great, hipshooting is inaccurate as god intended, there are reticles but oddly not for the high accuracy weapons/sniper rifles: it's as if it's offering you an unusual challenge in aiming, but the payoff is the weapon when in iron sights is dead on accurate.

the vehicle engine of the game is still clearly in development but shows great promise, I spent 15 minutes flying in what was essentially a Mk II Viper. Dogfighting is so much more dynamic when you can move quickly in reverse and such.

When this game gets its full version this will be brutally epic.

Google idlemaster. That think is awesome. It finds all the games in your library that have cards and then uses the steam API to simulate you being in game to earn you card drops. Once it finishes with a game it moves on to the next. You'll be surprised how many cards you actually can get from it especially if you buy all those indie bundles or get those free games that show up on indiegala and the like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

that sounds like a violation of steam's code of conduct

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

It does. Overheal, I clicked "watch game" workout realising it might actually affect your gameplay. I dunno how "watch game" works in steam, maybe there's no pop-up or minimal slow down? In any case if there was and it disturbed your game play I apologise.

Just wanted to see what angels falls looked like. :)

Doesnt affect anything as its about 30 seconds behind and rather well coded.

You have to set it to allow buddies or anyone to watch. I think its much more useful than twitch as its more personal.

A few of you may have noticed me watchig you playing games i dont own :D

Since I got Legend of Grimrock II functioning thanks to PlayOnLinux I'm really considering printing out the blank grid maps and drawing the map myself as I explore. I've never done it before so any tips? Should my starting point for each floor be in the center bottom for example? I'm thinking I'll need to print a lot of these haha. Cool that GOG provided em'.

Also considering full team of wizards this time around.

Don't know if it's of interest to you, but if it is, you can get Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition from GMG for €7.50 and get an additional 23% off with this code: 23PERC-AUTUMN-SAVING which brings it to just over a fiver.

I use a 360 controller and I really can't complain at all. I've never even owned an XBox, but the controller is solid and most games have a setup specifically for it, with the correct buttons shown on screen in tutorials, prompts, etc. I'd definitely recommend it. XBox One controller might be similar / better, but I've never used it.
