Arsenal should have been 4 or 5 up at halftime and then managed the second half brilliantly.

Wouldn't agree at all that it was just a 20 minute blip that cost us.

it was a tactical oversight that cost us. we left a big hole in MF.

    Well that was awful

The players were crap but the tactics and selection were wrong

Wake up call for a lot of people, hopefully the manager especially.

Today was a more accurate reality of our current quality than us being top. We will have better days but today was a nightmare and the opening 20 mins was a Carry on from Wednesday night's second half when we were awful.

Exactly, 3-0 flattered United. There's nothing positive to be taken out of today, Arsenal had the ultimate game plan and it was easy for them-go gung ho, get the early lead and then sit back for 70 mins.

Darmian, Daley, Mata, Memphis, Bastian, Rooney, Young, De Gea prob had their worst half in a United shirt and we were so far off the pace it was unbelievable.LVG has a lot of work and thinking to do, huge month of football and its got off to the worst possible start

Wenger is actually very good tactically against teams that try to play football against them.

It's teams like Chelsea and Stoke that try to prevent a match breaking out that he struggles against.

Wouldn't be worried about Darmian, LVG didn't give him a chance, Pool seriously taking the heat of LVG

Yep, he's outfoxed LVG on a few occasions now.

Being ****e is what cost us .

Totally played off the park, Ozil looked like he was back to his very best as was Sanchez and we even made Walcott look like he had somewhat of a football brain and that's saying a lot.

Its a reality check for sure.
But 6/10 times utd would beat arsenal.
I would say the score flattered arsenal. I know it's a cliche but of they fluffed one or 2 of those goals, the match would be different.

I'm taking solace in the fact it was arsenal and not someone like stoke etc

we didnt start as good as arsenal, but having said that we gave them so much space and they just passed the ball around.

if we parked the bus, we would have contained them. particularly in MF (carrick and bastian) were getting outrun. then bastian was pushing far too forward.

if we played a three man MF, the score line would have been different. we may have still lost or won, but it wouldnt have been 3-0 after twenty minutes. But the trade off with a three man MF is that you lose an attacker, so it becomes harder to score.

i saw the same thing away to PSV. going away from home in europe, you need to tighten up. that is what we should have done today IMO

Bit silly to call a top premiership manager terrible at tactics, especially with your defence of David luiz.

Id say he knows his way around a tactics board.

Anybody but Ancelotti or Klopp for Pool, they could elevate them from mid table irrelevance into genuine top 4 challengers

He was tactically brilliant today in fairness. Knew exactly how to beat United.

compared to other top managers he isnt great. van gaal wouldnt be great himself.

we actually played into arsenal hands today without arsenal having to do much tactics.

    leaving darmian 1 on 1 v sanchez

    pushing bastian up on carzola

bastian was drawn further forward. whether that was instigated by wenger, i dont know. i would have though that rooney would have been doing what bastian was doing.

In fairness while hats off to Arsenal, it's not rocket science to get a result off United since LVG took over.

Sit back, soak up and counter attack with pace and you can get something off United. Crowding out midfield and dragging our two midfielders around the place means then you've a chance of beating us.We've played 3 decent teams this year and lost all 3 games.

That's what I wanted Rooney to do as well

It's been pretty much Morgan S. + An Other all season so this was a very odd game to go with our 2 most static mf ,given how quick on the ball Arsenal can be. This also compounded the clusterf*ck in the full back positions currently.

Arsenal were very good but we didn't help ourselves at all.

Some nice touches by Martial was the only positive.

    I'd give Rooney a break, he's struggling.

Maybe even remove captaincy as I think that might be the type of thing he would respond positively to.

an oddly shocking performance - not tactical nous at all, not cohesion or inteligently solid play in the side. One thing we have generally been able to say about United this season is they looked well drilled and tactically astute - absolutely shocking today though. No protection from the midfield - the postioning of basically EVERYONE was incorrect and haphazard. Very disappointing. Also poor that nothing changed in the first half to combat this, we could have conceded many more goals. Schneiderlin should have been brought into the side, was a poor call to not start him in the first place.

The Rooney situation doesn't even merit talking about anymore; he is a shocking footballer and should be dropped, but he will play 90mins every game and stink it up. No point discussing it, cause nothing is going to change.

Very true. The possession style football is putrid to watch and needs to change ASAP.

While that may be true generally ... Arsenal pushed us back today relentlessly in the first half.

This chancer is on 300k a week. If I was as bad at my job as he is playing football I would be out on my ear. He simply should be dropped. I would love the wayne of old to come back, but this guy looks finished.

He really does. Rooney is causing too many problems. His touch has gone to hell and he just loses the ball too easily.
