Find him very tedious and he never takes responsibility for any mistakes he's made - very much like his arch nemesis Cornette but I think he's made a scapegoat for a lot of other peoples mistakes too. He played a significant part in writing the shows at it's most successful time ever. Both he and Ferrera probably deserve recognition for that imo.

It wasn't all down to him, of course not. But I don't think people can vilify him to the extent they have in some places and not acknowledge all the things he did.

I wasn't watching at that stage but I believe he did do a lot of damage. I guess he spent years trying to recreate what he did previously, a trap many fall into really.

People who say that Russo hurt the business are a ways off. It's the promotion's fault for giving the guy a job and it's their fault for giving him carte blanche. I've seen shoots by Russo before and he's always very consistent on his line about the success of the Attitude era. He's never taken sole credit for it, he's always said that it worked because he and Ed Ferrara wrote the show which was then tweaked by VKM and finally given to the immensely talented roster of the time to run with. To follow on from that, Russo's style of writing really fit in with the 'edgy' late 90s. Shock TV was a huge late night draw at the time.

It's no different to what Bill Watts did to WCW, really. He was a man who was successful in a different era and employed outdated methods which yielded unsatisfactory results. Furthermore, Cornette and Pritchard were pitching awful, horrible cartoon gimmicks in the mid 90s that had become unfashionable in about 1986. Russo's really just another in a long line of bookers from another time.

It's halftime here. Absolutely awesome so far. Vince has a great presence about him and he's so engaging. Really entertaining and so glad I came along.

Any major revelations from what's taken place so far? Gutted I missed it. Just finished work.

Quick note on the Russo event -

Good event last night. Well done to R&R for getting Russo to the country. Will have to get to more of them.

There was maybe 40 heads at it - maybe. Would have been good to see a few more to support the cause but a good start at the same time.

Russo was forthcoming with the details and he seemed genuinely happy to answer the questions - no holds barred which was decent. I'd heard a good bit of the content from various shoots and from the podcast rounds but there was some new stuff too; Bobby Lashley's take on the final days of Benoit backstage, Russo's rebuttal to Bischoffs JBL interview, Foley telling McMahon the rating of the 'this is your life' segment, etc.

One piece of constructive criticism - ultimately it was a three hour Q&A session - which was good but some kind of format or structure to keep things moving would be ideal. Looking to kayfabe commentaries - they have gimmick segments that are a little bit tacky (name association, ho-bag, etc) but just gives you another path to some insight versus the standard q and a that starts to fade around hour 2.

Special mention deserved for Eamon Darcy - good to see him again - he was well able for the job. Would like to see him host a more of those sessions. Does that he have a presence in social media?

All in all grand Monday night! Well done.

Darcy was a great host and Russo loved him. Called him a living breathing gimmick. The Bobby Lashley/Chris Benoit stuff gave me goosebumps. Basically he said Bobby walked into the trainers room a couple days before the incident and saw Benoit making mental deranged and contorted faces while nobody else was there. He also mentioned that Chris was supposed to be on a 6 month Sabbatical but came back after a few weeks when he was really not in the right frame of mind.

I felt Vince believed in most of what he was saying. Whether or not it's all true is possibly debatable but I really enjoyed the man's company and not once did he seem fed up. Well worth the entry fee IMO.

    Just on this...

I, personally, was waiting to hear how this one went, with the intentions that if it got good reviews, I'd be first in line next time one crops up. There's been a few too many incidents of events being promoted only to be cancelled or whatever. But it sounds like that trepidation was unnecessary, and that it was a good show?

Delighted to hear that this went well for the organisers and attendees last night. By all accounts people seem to have been impressed by Vince's attitude and general manner. Sadly when I finished working last night I had just worked 70 1/2 hours out of the previous 80 so was barely even able to manage watching Raw, let alone drive up to Dublin then.

Really good night and it exceeded my expectations. Most of the stories on the night I never heard before despite watching many shoots and listening to podcasts. Hopefully Ray will announce the Nov show soon.
