Tuesday 22nd Sept session 9*200's with 200 recoveries

Was not looking forward to yet another solo session on the bypass and feeling tired, but got out the door quickly this eve to keep as much daylight as possible. Forgot the HRM but remembered the inhaler (yay!) and boy did it make a difference to how this felt compared to last week. Ended up really enjoying it and found a lovely rhythm with quick short steps on the run home. Was able to jog a lot of the recoveries too compared to last week although as session went on I jog/walked the last few.

    Warm up 1.93miles @ 10.54

lap no moving time Distance avg pace best pace
    1 00:52 0.12 07:00 06:09
    2 00:52 0.13 06:41 05:41
    3 00:51 0.13 06:20 05:36
    4 00:49 0.13 06:08 05:19
    5 00:50 0.14 06:04 05:23
    6 00:54 0.13 06:42 05:17
    7 00:51 0.13 06:23 05:26
    8 00:56 0.13 06:56 05:55
    9 00:58 0.13 07:18 06:18

    cool down 1.87 miles @ 10:30

I forgot the inhaler for the last two sessions and I wasn't sure really how much difference it made on the couple of easy runs I'd taken it but wow did I notice a difference this eve, the 200's while hard were not coughing up a lung hard and the run home was lovely and easy breaths and was able to get into a rhythm of steps & breathing which I've read about and never been able to do.

Thanks although I'm pretty sure a real sprinter would laugh their socks of at paces like that :D

The real sprinters would be scared off before they got a chance to read that when they saw 9 reps ;)

Wednesday 23rd Sept 30 mins strength & stretching followed by lots of foam rolling. I have a couple of minor, slightly annoying niggles at the mo, my right hamstring feels quite tight still, both glutes are sore, my lower back RHS is quite tender and right IT band making itself known. None of these are over painful and I've been foam rolling every night in an effort to work out any knots. Foot is good though!!!

Thursday 24th Sept: 4 miles easy at HR 'all over the place..' (avg 138, don't have max figures till I upload to GC but I'd guess 145-148)

Solo lunch run (Sob) I don't feel rejected at all A & A :D. Probably as well to do this alone as I decided instead of the 10/15/10 tempo on the schedule I'd already done a steady (ie too fast) run on Monday so would keep this very slow with HR <135. I do feel the benefit of these slower runs when I do speed sessions & temp runs so will stick with it.

However, it didn't quite work out like that. Right from the off my HR reading was 164, I tried to adjust the band as much as you can on a public road! but no go. Eventually went into the loos in Jurys hotel to wet the censors again and adjust it, it helped a little in that the reading was a bit more normal but overall it stayed much higher than usual for these easy runs, the pace was also about 20 seconds a mile faster than I'd normally have it but I couldn’t get into a slower rhythm, nothing about this run felt good, easy or relaxed.

Could be a number of factors, I woke up coughing this morning so have taken cough bottle, echina and borocca (prevention is better than cure :D) its extremely windy out there today and I'm feeling tired. Anyway, not to worry, I have another easy run tomorrow then rest day Saturday.

I had a similar run on Monday and have been sick since! HR can be an indicator of illness brewing. Sounds like you're being sensible though so hope you stay healthy.

Or it could have been the wind! Lots of reasons HR can be high. Off work today as I'm aching all over and exhausted despite loads of sleep. Heading to America on Sunday so I need to be better by then.

Friday 25th Sept 4 miles easy, avg HR 133 max hr 163

thought I was going to have similar issues to yesterday as the first couple of miles the HR was way to high, it did settle down though as I got into a nice rhythm eventually so still not perfect but better than yesterday & really enjoyed this run, lovely evening too. There's definitely some class of lurgy lurking there but keeping it at bay with a pharmacy load of drugs & potions :) and thank god for whoever invented TCP, tastes vile but works a treat...
