Delited with that result for douglas like night a real shot in the arm for hurling in club
And every chance to win football as well

Unbeleivable kingston would be back to win it for them but in fairnes they were right there with sars the whole way before he came on

He some young fella and anyone know cork underaged had him spotted well before he scoredd 1-9 as an intercounty minor even though he didnt play 21 or senior with club

Very hardworking douglas team they caught Blackrock, and great young coach in keating lads like o brien murphy powterr walsh o mahony part of rochestown team who done so well to get to finals with school but culdnt finish job
Not a great game bad heavy conditions and didnt suit likes hackett and young healy who is best player i think on sars team
Sars were champions but killeah let them away last year when they had chances to win the first day out gaffey a loss for sars but on balance there best players healy crowley o driscoll underage again next year
Theres a few lovely yiung hurlers part of douglas team turnbull howell holland and they will push again next yr to And na piarsigh closing gap on sars to

I always taught kingston a beautiful footballer but hes equal in both codes prob a problem for him as i dont think young lads can do both with demands on them
I geniunely hope club look after him now hes too y
Oung for senior i dont thnk any lad doing leaving cert shoukd be involved with a county Team esp if hes playing school and club games -

    A good read
The part about the cork camoige team being well coached in Murray had a huge team back room with him is a point i made last week about the people he brought in in its not about a manager alone it's the team he has with him
Good to read a piece in a paper saying this and Cork even had a goal keeping coach and it shows cork success isn't down to luck on any given day but there set up is top class

It's seems like best hurling team prepared alongside donal og grady team years ago where he big back room team with nutrition, s and c goal keeping video assessment etc

The point about Murray wanting gps but knows money is not allow that and fair enough as they don't have money but shows the mindset all the same of he's thinking
It's no great surprise then he's got cork to three finals winning two and real chance three in a row
The level of preparation in ladies game by cork in football and hurling is leading the way in the women's game and it's great to see
He's always looking for the way to improve and gain an edge on next year

Kingston is a class act. Douglas treat their Young lads sensibly by not letting them play U21 or senior. Short term pain that hopefully brings longer-term rewards.

How soon are we expecting announcements on the two senior jobs? We could do with getting things started up. The respective backroom teams will be interesting.

I don't see any chance of this TTM the manput his proposal to the committee/frank and was sent on his way. I have no doubt McCarthy will be named to much acclaim from the executive in the next couple of days and a continuance of the disaster under Cuthbert will carry on.

Shame. Felt there was a nasty tone to the criticism that Cuthbert received, although much of that criticism was justified but the lack of coaching experience in the backroom team was unforgivable in the modern era where specialist coaching roles are becoming the norm.

Maybe I'm grossly simplifying things but that schoolmaster mentality i.e. this is my class, you're all kids doesn't do anything for the modern GAA side. There's delegation and then there's the delusion that you can control everything. The team game dictum applies to the backroom now as much as to the playing squad. Hopefully whoever comes in understands that. The championship needs Cork.

Powter was brilliant for Douglas in senior championship marking none other than Tomas O'Se.

I'd leave them another year to develop, let them play u21 alright and senior for their club. No need in rushing young fellas into senior intercounty setups

I agree one more year would do them the world of good, I heard they both are able to play Corn ni Mhuiri and Harty as well if so rochestown are in for another long year

I was talking to a cork hurler last week, he told me most of the city lads can't get on with Landers. he also told me Pat Mul had the Cork job if he wanted it but he'd be out of pocket too much if he took it. he asked would CCB reimburse him the balance and he was refused in no uncertain terms. I've no reason to doubt the player.

They may well be ready but neither of them will even play u21 next year. Their education comes first and that makes a lorra sense.

If so this would be a huge loss for both teams

Still no white smoke re our senior team managements ...just another thing that struck me the nominations are out for the u21 hurling of the year players from , Tipp, Limerick, Clare , Waterford, Dublin , Kilkenny, Galway , as well as Carlow and Antrim are on it and no Cork player ...a reflection of where Cork hurling is at the moment..

when is the next board meeting? next week or two?

Not until the 6th of October, long time to wait for the football appointment committee began, 2 months?, 2 months to interview and assess 4 candidates??????? very strange that we are still waiting especially if cleary is out of the running, the only outstanding applicant imo.

Mallow/Fr O'Neills drew in u21 hurling q/final tonight. Nip and tuck most of the way. Mallow went 5 up shortly before half time (3 in it at h/t) but O'Neills scored the next 8 points on the bounce to take a three point lead half way through the second half. Mallow then came back into it with a goal to level and then kicked on to lead by 4 with 5 minutes left. Fair play to O'Neills they didn't give in and scored 1 1 to level it and send it to a replay. Very poor first half (27th minute before a point from play) with a better second half which finished in a welter of excitement. Overall not a great standard (in keeping with this year's u21 fare generally - no standout teams) but we'll worth the fiver in given the exciting finish.

Did clubs get hurling nomination papers that ger lane spoke about .and if so whoose names are they putting forward for hurling manager job?

Looks like Cleary is back at the head of the list for the Cork job per the Southern Star and the Echo.

    http://www.eveningecho.ie/sport/cleary-back-in-the-running-for-cork-job-as-lehane-edges-closer-to-fitness/910690/
I had said here three days ago there was hope I had clearly was back in the fray
The part was highlighted by a poster to say there was no chance
I didn't want to elaborate until it came public but I knew he back in contention

With out going in to the a and b I will say absoultey fair play to some of the established players who made it absoultey perfectly clear no uncertain terms clearly was the man
They had nothing against McCarthy but purely coaching want best for cork
Players didn't get involved in allowed the process to work but once clearly was out made it clear they wanted him

I said this before once players and others speak out with the staduim being rebuilt and all the controversy this year with school board travelling on team bus the statement after last manager the board were in no position to really go against anything once players stood up

They can ill afford a drama with all funding needed for pairc
Players had perfect time to support Clearly
The schools proved the way as once it went public the school won in have lot final listed for November

Clearly was absoultey right and correct not to comprise on he's position
And as it seems hugely likely he will now get this job it would seem it's going be on he's terms and he's terms only
Huge huge step forward for cork football and it won't be cleary makes the difference alone it will be he's back room staff he brings and attention to detail and the fact players want him is huge sign he's already starting ahead of the last manager as he has huge belive from the panel

The hurling team should learn and make it clear want only best man available for the job
I was never much in favour of the pairc for cost reason but at least it made board more comprises to things
Players could said nothing and imo clearly wouldn't be back in the fray
The fact they stood up and want him is ideal as if players weren't listened to and few senior players said so it would not look good again

This is a huge huge absoultey magnificent day for cork football in yes clearly has question marks in some eyes but no one can really debate with proven logic he's not by a country mile the best available stand out candidate cork job at present and when you think who could got cork job it really shows how great this is

Yes process ongoing but I have absoultey no doubt clearly has it now as he made it clear before he was undecided on the job appointment process and as medical said pulled out last week he wouldn't go back unless he knew too well he had it

Just a case I feel of it being confirmed
In cork gaa you never know but I'd be surprised if he didn't get it now

Have no doubt watching Dublin and kerry sunday further under lined to the players the huge gap appearing and it's now or never for some of them so needed management challenge next two years
The one good thing also is Tompkins always strong ccb ally was hugely for clearly getting the job
The point is most cork football were all for clearly
No doubt compromise was probably reached in clearly had to give a little but I'm sure basic foundation he stayed firm to
Clearly played this beautiful from day one in always said in conservation way would be interested but under certain circumstances
Even when he was out of the race he never spoke

He was diplomatic and like last two years never once spoke out
The vote not that he needed it of sympathy was with him cork football and fact he's best record available and now players belive in him was key
Liam shorten in the paper week ago said he was the man for it

Clearly will bring professional standards to cork imo as league will be focused on in performance and staying up but won't be be and end all
    He'll target championship
As under twenty one manager he always took challenge matches focus trying things and some games he lost but championship always cork primed
Many times had under twenty one football training gougan barra in January in preparation for the spring
He had goal keeping coach video assessment etc you name it
It should be interesting he's back room team but I suspect one man will definitely be there
Maybe not I could be wrong but I think clearly will bring in experience

There's day in sport that off field change future
Cork strikes football getting counihan over Holland and o grady getting hurling in similar scenario was good future
Roy keane saipain changed irish soccer for better
Ireland rubgy loosing to Argentina in lens marked end of ameauteaur game was turning point
Cork ladies ten years ago demanding change management like camoige team wanting change three years ago

This story with cleary has long way to go to see how successful he'll be but one thing for sure is cork will be better than last year and at least top four
Cleary back in the race imo means he has the job and correctly so
Yes he has to prove himself like any manager but he has a record at least to have foundation success
Mick deegsn Dublin selector even proven in won leinster and county title coach he club
Mark ingle dunne all proveproven in sport
    Gavin proven football
Cleary gives cork start least we never had last year in he's some track record in club and county at least

TTM, You seem to be well informed wrt many aspects of Cork GAA so I'm surprised that you aren't aware of the significant improvements at the CCB due to Ger Lane and other more progressive people elected to the Executive. Lane's people are finding progress difficult due to Frank and his solid support base - however - they are making slow but sure progress. Liam Weir thanked the Chairman, at the recent CB meeting, for resolving the Sciath na Scol issue - that was significant.

We've finally got a Chairman that is prepared to stand up to Frank and do what's right for Cork GAA -and Tracey Kennedy is likely to continue this trend.

Lane succeeded in getting ex players involved in selecting the Senior IC Managers and that was critical. Nick Murphy was the conduit for the current players expressing a strong preference for Cleary. There was huge support for Cleary amongst his colleagues on the 1990 panel and Sunday's get together in CP allowed these people to express their views, in no uncertain terms. Frank was very much aware that the other 4 members of the committee, strongly favoured Cleary and whilst he never officially opposed them, he accepted the inevitable and the matter was effectively decided in Sunday.

Frank is Frank and the fat lady is still clearing her vocal cords but I'm hopeful that he can't gerrymander this one.
