I did Salou from that airport last year! Think it was about 40 minutes on the train and it was absolutely lovely, such a laid back place.

You won't do Salou from Barcelona Airport by train in 40 minutes (more like 1 hour 40 minutes). The train from the airport goes in to Sants Station, where you change trains for the Tortosa train. This train stops at Salou en route.

I'm pretty sure that you can buy a ticket from the airport train station to Salou (open to correction), which saves having to queue at the ticket desk in Sants.

Re Castelldefels...me and the missus went down there from the city, one afternoon last year, to scout it out with a view to future holidays, and decided that it wasn't for us. It's more residential than holiday focused. It would be like staying in Portmarnock (here, in Dublin). A nice place, but the things that you might look for (restaurants, shops, etc) are thin on the ground.

We stayed in Badalona (on the other side of Barcelona)a few years ago, and enjoyed it there. :)
