I stayed in the botel. Think its amstelbotel it's a retired cruise ship type thing cheap and cheerful 2 mins from central station

This is too good to be missed. Booked same day return on a Saturday for 20EUR. Flight is only 1:30 so gives plenty of time to explore the city!

If even, flew over recently, up and down in an hour and 10 mins or so. Unbelievably short flight.

For those who travelled already how's the trip from Dublin to Amsterdam by Ryanair?

Which places did you go to?

The Bols experience was very good (if you like cocktails). Anne Frank House, unless booked in advance is pointless, three hour queue!!

Flew back from there last night, very very lucky to fly with the fog

If you're planning visiting Anne frank house I recommend booking online, queues were 4 hours ish

. As others have said Anne Frank house but pre book as soon as you can because it gets booked out quickly. Zoo was great. I loved Heineken experience too. Another highlight for me was a visit to the windmills it's about 35 mins on bus but so worth it. They are beautiful.

Enjoyed Anne Frank museum. Got there just before 10 and it took 1 and 3/4 hours to get in. Wouldn't want to do it if it was any colder. I can only imagine what it must be like in the summer. The online tickets seemed to be booked out a long time ago.

Went to the Rijksmuseum for the obligatory paintings. Otherwise just wandered around looking at stuff, eating and drinking.

Beware the large Chinese restaurant in the harbour, had been in it before and didn't remember it being so pricey:- prawns with cashew nuts was over e40- two people could fly to Amsterdam and back for that :-)

Another thing worth noting is that the red light district still exists- the ladies are notable by their absence. Apparently the area is subject to a major clean up, property too valuable apparently

Bols is a cool experience. Also recommend highly the Amsterdam dungeon, its a really well done creepy experience.

It was a lovely day out. The sun was shining and it stayed dry. The volume of cyclists is amazing. I got the Amsterdam Travel Ticket for 15 euro which covered airport-city and all the trams and all the GVB buses. Had a lovely walk in the big public park (got a tram from Central Station) and loads of places for snacks and eats in the city centre. City is quite compact. It was very easy to navigate - all signage in English, announcements ditto. No delays with flights, all very smooth. Happy!:)

The Anne Frank House had a short queue later in the evening. We queued for 15 minutes.

Although I was reluctant to tie myself down to a time, I booked the Van Gogh museum online. Was glad I did as even the midweek queues were crazy. It was a real highlight for me and included an Edvard Munch exhibition so I also got to see 'The Scream'.

If you're into photo journalism there is currently a very good exhibition of Magnum Contact Sheets in 'FOAM'

There is a fantastic view of the city outside the roof café of the Nemo Science Centre, which was nice after all the narrow streets. You can walk up to it or take the lift in the lobby, there is no need to pay in.

The weather was great so we walked most places which was nice but cyclists seem to take priority over pedestrians. I don't know how the locals tolerate the invasion of tourists but I found them very helpful.

Wasn't expecting it to be so expensive. A pint was 9.00 in some pubs.

Great city though, would definitely go back.

I know you got to laugh when people give out about the prices in Temple Bar

There are some bars around Leidseplein and Dam that are a complete rip off, but it's to be expected really.

There are some really nice bars

This is a nice spot, but of a tram/bicycle ride out but worth it.

The Wildeman is also great, huge selection of beers

The Beer Temple also has a great selection of stuff.

If you want more of a lively atmosphere then you could try the Watering Hole

For Clubs you could try studio 080, mainly underground electronic music and goes until around 6-7am in the morning. When going there make sure you look up the lineup as they will ask you on the door who you came to see, if you can't name at least 1 or 2 DJs they will not let you in (I've been told this is to keep away English Stag parties)

I looked online and the tickets are booked out completely for the month of November!!! Does that mean I wonder, if you queue you might get tickets?!

there are still going to be tickets when you queue. The online ones are just limited hence it goes out quickly. I am in the exact same situation where i should have bought them last month and now i'm afraid i have to queue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,141 ✭✭✭ActingDanClark

I was there for 2 days and there was limited online availability each day. Yes you'd get in if you queued, but you'd sacrifice a lot of your day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,141 ✭✭✭ActingDanClark

I've been there in December and the queue was harmless

What kind of place do you want ? Hostel ? Hotel ? Apartment ?

What's your budget per person and how many people ?

I'm looking too, as going second week in December.

Looking at a hotel (decent) for two people and approx €100-200 per night..
Hoping for somewhere central.. it's hard to judge as we don't know what areas are what :)
