Will having DirectX12 improve performance on games that have been out a while? I have games like Sleeping Dogs, GTA4, Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, that I play a bit.

Will these performance improvements the articles are reporting make their way to previous games and improve the GPU performance in general or is it only the brand new games in the pipeline utilising DX12?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Mainly new games, some will be ported to DX12 but probably not too many imo

They'll have to have a DX12 option for any noteworthy difference afaik.

I wonder how DX12 is going to effect WINE. Will it make things easier or harder to get working? Will it make them perform better/worse when they are working? One wonders how many DX exclusive games will be easier played now. Still praying to Vulkan, though.

Divinity Original Sin 2 Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/larianstudios/divinity-original-sin-2

The $25 tier with Alpha and Beta access seems rather good for anyone who likes this genre.

Am I the only one who thinks paying for a game that you aren't going to get until the end of 2016 is bonkers?

I mean, I completely understand if the game is being released by some indie developer with no cash but with the popularity of Divinity Original Sin in 2014, surely they have enough money to fund the project themselves.

I guess if it's a game that you are definitely going to buy no matter what, it's a good opportunity to "pre-order" at probably the best price you will see the game in the first 6 months.

One thing is for sure, they will make a hell of a lot more money than the ~1 million they made on the 2014 kickstarter project.

I actually would think the opposite, I'd never back a tiny indie with no cash in a Kickstarter. That doesn't strike me as a good idea (I may back one if they've a solid beta out somewhere). I've no problem with an established independent studio using Kickstarter as a way to get more money for development (e.g. Tides of Numeria or Pillars of Eternity). Ditto with Early Access, mainly because these people should be able to actually finish the game (usually anyway, Double Fine being a sinner here). I think Larian bringing out Divinity Original Sin and doing it well is a really good reason to give them money this time if you are a big fan of this genre and want to see more games for it.

The crucial thing is though: you are not buying a game you're offering to subsidize development a bit in exchange for the promise of a copy of the game. That's only worth doing if you're a genre fan and you've faith in the developer. I agree though that if all you want to do is buy a game then this is a very bad idea. Essentially I think with niche genres you're more likely to see a suitably niche release if something is crowdfunded rather than funded through traditional channels that will push for a more mainstream title. This is something you should only care about though if you're a big genre fan obviously.

I posted about this over on the Divinity Kickstarter thread here. Makes for some interesting reading.

nesf nailed it above though. If people want more niche titles that some publishers would baulk at funding due to potentially lower or even riskier returns, then fans need to step in and do something about it, whether that's backing KS campaigns, supporting in Early Access or even just buying it at launch.

I think people forget that "enough cash to make a sequel" is not the same as "enough to make the sequel we want to make." There's diminishing returns on adding more cash to the development pool but with independent developers they're normally starting from such a low point (compared to AAA publishers) that even an extra 500K can substantially expand the game.

It's a decent enough single player campaign - short but alright, it was a buggy mess when it was first released

I thought the online was pretty novel - fun invading peoples games, and trying to act like the npcs

I played it a couple of weeks ago. Didnt like it overall though it has its good moments. Found the missions got repetitive after a while as they all follow the same fomula more or less. Found the online invasions got annoying so switched them off.

Playing a wee bit of Payday 2, finished all the currently available levels in Besiege, and now I'm onto chapter 3 in The Witcher. :D

Are the Telltale Games The Walking Dead worth it for someone who doesn't like the show?

It's large unrelated. I agree the show is horrendously written. But the games have different writers thankfully.

Humble Bundle Keys. 85% off if you pick 5 Telltale Games, I wasn't sure of the last two to add if I was going to use the full five.

It's a pick your own bundle thing

i've no interest in those kind of games really, but i did watch someone live stream a couple of episodes and towards the end I got hooked. I was actually checking their twitter regularly to see when they were going to be streaming the next one

if you like the idea of a choose your own adventure story i really doubt you'll be disappointed

The Walking Dead game is far better than the tv series.

In my experience Origin customer service is actually pretty decent.

In my experience, Origin is streets ahead of Uplay as an interface. So much so that i actually dont mind using Origin anymore.

    Uplay is pure dribble

+1. Plus they give games away for free. And I kinda like the browser based approach for Battlefield. I quite like Origin. Uplay and Ubi can ♡♡♡♡ off.

I'm actually sitting here launching Watchdogs and steam and uplay both launch. Then my computer freezes. It's highly annoying.

I'm close to uninstalling uplay and never buying a ubisoft game again to avoid it.

    Aaaaaaaaaaagggggfghhhhhhhhh! Another freeze
