Apparently a great song and dance from Bungy and Firedance around here again (they say) but I didn't see them at all even though I looked straight at them and smiled (they say) .

Well that's the last time you get the (now patented) victory song and dance routine :pac::pac:

Great report and yet another PB (how many is that this year so far ??).

Well done Anna - great to see people working their way through the self doubt that comes our way!

Thanks D, I was interested to see in your report that you had similar thoughts at the same stage (albeit at a much faster pace :)). So maybe it's normal!

There isn't a race that I haven't had those internal conversations to some extent, I'd even have to do it during some training sessions - perfectly normal in my view !

Agree with this. Every race I've hit my target I have the I want to quit thoughts come fairly strong early on. It's just a matter of accepting that it will happen, relaxing and knowing it will pass in my experience.

Eh that wasn't the ladylike mentality you and A were spouting during the week about public relieving :) well done again, delighted for you.

It's perfectly fine to piss in a ditch on race day, part of the routine really.

Well done Anna, it's great to be able to see a progression like that. I'm exactly the same with the negative thoughts. "why am I doing this?" often pops into my head. But when I finish I know why.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,038 ✭✭✭Neady83

Great result Anna and dang well deserved with all the training you've put in :) Love you report too, it's so honest. I don't think I've ever run a race where I haven't, even for a second, thought 'what the hell am I doing, this is sooo hard' but the moment always passes so it's a matter of getting through and making it to the other side and you always do in your races, you're tough :) ..... and when I cross the line, I'm always wondering when I can sign on for the next race, what's wrong with us? :D:D

    Keep them PBs coming :)

Ok, now that I'm finished hiding behind my FD 10 miler PB, it's time to fess up and give myself a black mark for last week overall.

Tuesday, 18th: 10k/6miles (as above somewhere)

    Wednesday, 19th: 6.4k @ 6:14/km; 4 miles @ 10:02/mi
hot and sweaty afternoon up Crumlin road, reliving the worst moments of DCM 14 (first time back there). plan was for 8 miles, but I didn't have time so thought I would do the 8 miles on Thursday... but...

Thursday 20th, Friday 21st: Rest... wasn't feeling great on Thursday, and didn't want to do 8 miles on Friday, the day before FD, so a 2-day taper.

Saturday: Frank Duffy 10 miles (did I mention my PB?) plus 1.2 miles warmup

    Sunday: Nada
No good excuse here, considered getting up early to do some recovery miles, considered trying to do 9 miles to hit the weekly target -- ended up not doing any... instead went to the airport to pick up a returning j1-er, then went to Croker to cheer on Tyrone (hard luck, Meno)... then sniffed disapprovingly as D diligently headed out the door to do his recovery.

    Weekly total: 21.38 mi :o

    MTD: 106+ miles

So, the target for this week is 45 miles+ With 14 miles on Weds and an 18 mile long run at the weekend. Decided I needed to get myself off to a good start.

    Monday, 24 August: Easy.
    6.22 mi @ 10:07 min/mi; 10K @ 6:17/Km

Slightly delayed recovery but legs felt fine after FD, if a bit tired. Nice day for it. Most memorable thing about this run was nearly getting hit by a car -- coming back towards Fairview, passing the entrance to Westwood gym. As usual, there was a queue of cars going into the gym ( I always marvel at that). I was passing it carefully when some idiot turned very fast from the other side of the road into the crowded entrance, nearly hitting me. I got such a fright that it brought out my inner New Yorker and I let a roar at him... you stupid bast**d... he kindly roared back, shurrup, you oul'....? I didn't hear the end of it because I hadn't stopped... so after feeling a bit guilty for my bad behaviour (there was a startled toddler in a car seat in the back), I was amused the rest of the way home wondering what the end of his sentence was. No suggestions necessary thanks. :p

    Tuesday, 25 August: Easy.
    4 mi @ 9:45 min/mi; 6.5K @ 6:03/Km

Nice easy run, joined D for the first 3K, then he went on.

Right, apart from the runner rage incident, I've restored my virtue a bit and all i have to do is the 14 miler, the 18 miler and a few little runs to hit the target this week. :)

yes, i was thinking of that... might be saturday though, don't want to be too wrecked watching the dubs beat mayo :)

am doing a parkrun on Sat as I won't fit in a long run - there is nothing better than a nice long run followed by an afternoon on the couch with a glass of wine/couple of beers watching Dublin win :):)

Well done on Saturday Anna (didn't realise you were racing. So out of touch here!). Easy week did you no harm.

*As already alluded to, everyone gets the quitting thoughts. Second mile for me in Bohermeen last March. I think the further you are from the finish, the worse they are.

Now off to read Murph's log as I didn't realise he ran either.....

Gosh, that is scary. I'm always very nervous running past there but have never had an incident. The majority of drivers don't seem to realise it's a footpath.

But you got a PB ..... no virtue restoration required. PBs count for double miles :D

    Don't you mean when??;)

R was disappointed for sure but could see many positives for next year with an extra 12 months of experience in the team.
Very difficult to see a clear favourite for Ulster next year with Donegal and Monaghan (I'm assuming) losing a few to retirements and Tyrone and Fermanagh likely to be better than this year.
Sean Cavanagh was very disappointing last weekend and if he and Harte were up to their usual standard it would have been right down to the wire.

    Anyways, Maigh Eo Abú!
