What's your base top per mth with this?

€15, you need to spend €15 every month to get the unlimited calls. I then spend €10 of this credit for unlimited texts and €5 of it for 1GB of data.
Ah yes aslong as you believe it's 'free'

Nothing to do with the interest they charge for your credit card or how much you're over paying for your butter compared to competitors.

Well you don't have to pay any interest on the credit card if you pay your card off full every month (highly recommended).

True about the butter, but if you are shopping there anyway (for instance it is the closest store to me by a long way), then no downside in taking advantage of it.

Damn, I just missed out on pajero12's nice offer!

Haha, I had actually deleted my request, seeing as PatM65 jumped in seconds before!

Truth is I actually don't need it, use less then a gig a month, just can't resist a bargain :D

    PM sent

Why send a PM when two other users clearly got in there before you?

If any other carphonewarehouse employee would throw a friends and family SIM my way I would be forever greatful, please .

top up by 30euro get 33 cherry pts then text RED to 50233 and get 60 cherry pts. cherry pts can be exchanged 300 for 30 euro top up. It works out at less than 20 a mth for unlimited calls/texts 100 int calls and 3.5GB

Kicker is that you often get extra for you top up like 36 for 30 deals etc
I might be interested in this as I have very poor coverage at home and according to ComReg website there is a Vodafone mast about 5 miles from my house so it should be way beetter as other masts are at least 10 miles away.
I'm not sure though how you're getting it for less than 20...

    33 + 60 = 93 Points
If you need 300 points for €30 top up then you need 93 points X 4 months (in order to get 300 or more). So basically you're 5th month is free.

So in 12 months you get 2 free months and pay for 10 months
10 X €30 = €300 for the year which averages out at €25 per month.

    Am I missing something ?

I found there were a whole bunch of issues:

    - 48 only give you 60 minutes a month to landlines, versus unlimited calls to landlines with Tesco Mobile (TM)!

    - TM has very cheap international calls, just 1c per minute to UK, US, Australia, Poland, Brazil, etc. versus 50 to 100 times more expensive with 48! Yup 48 charge between 50c and €1 per minute to call the same!! Massive rip off.

    - 48 doesn't support international data roaming at all. While a little expensive, at least it is an option with TM.

    - TM gives you 300 web texts per month, very handy when travelling abroad (send over free wifi), 48 doesn't give you anything!

    - If your phone is off or out of range and you get a missed call, you get a missed call text when you turn your phone back on with TM. Very useful to know if you missed an important call. 48 don't support this, so you have no idea if you missed an important call. I found this one super annoying!

    - 48 cuts off your call at the 60 minute mark. Now of course you can call back again, but still super annoying, specially if you are on a conference call. I haven't found any cut off point for TM. I've been on calls more then 3 hours and no cut off! Was super annoying on 48, brilliant again on TM.

    - TM has real customer support. You can call them on a phone, email them, talk to them in their shops and they even have a Talk To forum here on boards. 48 support on the other hand can only be contacted over email and it takes days for them to respond!

    - TM allows you to carry over unused data if you set it up in the right way.

On their own, non of these might be a deal breaker, but put together, they make a big difference IMO

Being with 48 just felt like being a mickey mouse, childish (the whole stupid jokes when you call voicemail, etc.) and cheap operation. On the other hand, being with Tesco Mobile feels like being with a proper, full, professional mobile network, with customer support and features just as good as I had with Vodafone, but at a fraction of the cost.

And remember if you use Tesco Clubcard points, it actually works out being cheaper then 48 while giving you far more, it really is a no brainer.

I get it free every second month due to Tesco Clubcard points. While it might not work out the same for everyone, I effectively pay just €7.50 per month for unlimited mobiles calls, unlimited landline calls, unlimited texts and 1GB of data! Really incredible value for money.

It would be nice if Tesco Mobile added 4g data. But I'm not pushed about it, just like the possibility of better coverage, rather then speed. But I don't want them to raise prices in order to introduce it. Not worth it then IMO.

Oh and cheaper data roaming would be nice. Something like Meteors 50mb for 99c per day data roaming would be nice. I'll be watching out for ID Mobiles and UPC mobiles data roaming rates. All the MVNO's seem to be poor on this.

Yeah none of those really bother me.

Never ring landlines, never ring international, whatsapp instead of webtexts.

1gig wouldn't be enough for me.

I pay the €20 a month for 1k minutes, unlimited texts and 8gigs of data.
Don't think there's a deal out there that suits me better.

Sure, might not bother you, but these downsides make it really hard for me to recommend 48 to anyone.

    - The ridiculous cost of international calls, makes it really hard to recommend it to any of my foreign friends. The people who might benefit most from cheap plans.

    - The cutting you off after 60 minutes and childish voicemail messages, means I can't recommend it to anyone who might use their phone for work.

    - The lack of landline calls, means it can't really be recommended to more elderly people who tend to still use landlines a lot.

So really it is only suitable to Irish teenagers! And even for them, I'd think a lot of them would like to have data roaming while abroad on their holidays.

I'm not saying 48mobile doesn't have a niche to fill. But I just can't recommend it to most people because of it's limitations. I find Tesco a far easier recommendation.

Tesco just seems to have a plan to cover almost every need. Depending on how much data you need:

€15 - unlimited mobile calls, landline calls and texts + 1GB data
€20 - unlimited mobile calls, landline calls and texts + 5GB data
€25 - unlimited mobile calls, landline calls and texts + 15GB data (12 month contract).

And I don't have to worry about them coming back to me and complaining about the limitations of 48.

It will be interesting to see UPC and ID launch and what they end up offering and how Tesco, 48, etc. respond.

I'll also be watching out if ID and UPC are more like 48 or like Tesco in terms of the features they offer.

If it wasn't for the crappy service here in doombeg on both 3 and emobile I would have been first in line.
Reminds me of my time in the bush in Mozambique when I had to walk up to the main road to make a call nearly 20 years ago.

If you called your voicemail service and it was empty, you would get a message something like this:

"You have no messages, you most have no friends!"

Their service was littered with other similar jokey comments. Remember that hen they launched, it was supposed to be only for 18 to 22 year olds.

    HI again,
Where so Tesco have €20 - unlimited mobile calls, landline calls and texts + 5GB data? I'm looking at plans on their website at sim only plans but can't see anything as good as that...

I haven't read back through the whole thread but I think this might refer to the Pay As You Go Deal, a €15 monthly top up gets you free calls but you can buy a text add on for €10 and a 5GB Data add on is also €10. Therefore if you top up by €20 you satisfy the requirement for the free calls and your €20 pays the €10 for each of the 2 add ons

    Click on this link

Then click on the "Add ons" to see the text and data add ons.

I don't know about the voicemail, but they do state "You're not able to make this call. Hate that", or something to that effect.

It isn't a plan so much, rather it is just a way of topping up.

    1) Topup by €20 per month (gives you unlimited calls)
    2) Spend €10 of your top-up on unlimited texts
    3) Spend €10 of your top-up on 5GB of data

You can automate all of this if you register your credit/debit cards with them online.

So does this mean that the signal for all the mvno's varies? What's the best method to use so when deciding on a network, the three signal in an area & then see what an mvno says?

@bk - For the amount of promotion you have done for TM you deserve a staff / preferred TM Sim :)

Totally agree with your comments, it's the best value out there IMO. I need to make quite a few international calls and their international calling rates are probably the best out there. I am using TM for couple of years now.

Add 4G and it will be perfect. Although 3g works just fine.

According to a very nice carphonewarehouse employee the friends and family package for €15 will cost Joe public €30. There might be special offers tomorrow at launch so could be worth a trip to the local CPW.

Actually €29 to be exact, I've been studying the prices for the last while, some are pretty good alright, others, not so.

The employee I spoke to said " there were a few floating around but they are now gone". If I had know about this last week I could have got one.

You really don't need the unlimited texts with the 300 free webtexts if you download the app.
