The worst kid's name you've ever heard?

The worst kids name I ever heard has to be Le-a. At first it doesn't seem too stupid but the mother who named her child Le-a doesn't pronounce it as Lea or Lay-a but Ledasha. It's so ridiculous that I'm not sure if its true but considering that a couple in Mexico named their child Facebook, nothing is too surprising these days.

Eiméar. The fada should make it be pronounced more like ee-Mayr, but no, it's still pronounced Emer. Another annoying misspelling is Eimhear - the mh should make a V sound in the middle, but no, apparently the h is "silent".

I've seen Eimear and Éimear, but never Eiméar - I think the síne fada is in the wrong place, TBH.

Mind you, I do have an "Amir" and an "Amar" living nearby - but both are blokes and neither seems to have an Irish heritage. :pac:

Eimhear (or even Éimhear) is supposed to be pronounced something like "Evir", AFAIK. I didn't even think the name had an English translation.

She has two other kids called Chlamydia and Herpes.

I can almost hear a modern day Irish country music classic coming on......

.....There's a girl in Clondalkin called Chlamydia. :o

    Down Santry Way I Came
Looking For A Job Or Fame
But No One Would Take Me.
They All Had To Break Me.
    There Was Only One Way.

In The Toilets of The Air Hotel,
    My Arse Began To Swell.
He Loved Me Till Dawn Arose.
And then my heart sud'nly froze.
A Miracle God Blessed Me with Ease
He gave me Chlamydia and Herpes.

    Two children born of love
    To reap rewards above
    Beneficial gifts to gifts
So we wouldn't be left adrift.

He and I did not see eye to eye.
But I didn't expect him to die.
I was left holding the keys.
But I still had Chlamydia and Herpes.

They went to school and grew.
She married but he said no to you.
You then offered Herp world peace.
Happy endings for Chlamydia and Herpes.

Never had it pronounced that way as of yet ! It's pronounced Eye leesh, the Irish for Elizabeth.

I think the name Eilish and Ailish are often confused and are seen as the same. They are not. The first is based on the Irish for Elizabeth, the second is based on the Irish for Alice.

Car by Ford.....back in the 90s, they were the coolest 'micra/starlet - type' on wheels.
Calling your child Kia - that's just wrong- I actually don't know if it's a girls/boys name- hope it's a girls- because, for a boy- it's just wrong.

Also hate the idea of calling children after towns, ie- Dakota, Paris, Georgia, etc. Unless there is a connection to the city/town....

Your Kia fail has already been dealt with so I'll cover the rest of your post.

Firstly, Georgia is not a town (well it might be, somewhere, but not a well known one), it's the female form of George. I'm pretty sure the places you're thinking of called Georgia (a U.S. state and a country) were named after people called George/Georgia.

Secondly, Dakota is not a town, it's two U.S. states, derived from a native Indian word/tribe.

Thirdly, while there is a city called Paris, it's been a name for people since long before anyone called a city by that name.

Failing all over the place Missy (if that even is your name...)

Aviva, with a very ordinary Irish surname. Díoma since it means disappointment. And Abhaighdha- pronounced Ava. There's a lot more but these stand out from the last few months.

My daughter has what is probably considered an old fashioned Irish name these days. Despite the fact that I have the one fada in the correct place, some still insist on calling her by a very similar sounding name, as if the fada was on the first letter too :(. I can't understand people throwing in random fadas where they don't belong though. The name doesn't look right at all that way, and then they probably wonder why people misprinounce it !

There is a child called Tigerlily on our estate. It just sounds wrong with an Irish surname.

Is it Caitlín? I fücking hate when it's spelled like that but pronounced Katelynn. Especially if the person is Irish.

Worst I know of is a child born to English speaking but non Irish parents, they called him Bhailie. They said it means "home", and yes they thought it was pronounced Bailey and spelled it that way for some weird reason. I don't think I need to break this one down into all the wrongs in one wee word.

Irish names over here in France are the Shaniqua etc equivalents. If you're a teacher and there's a Killian in your class, you just know he'll be a little **** and his parents will be worse.

That's a real shame. There's some lovely and dignified names in Irish. Pity to see them fall into disrepute.

Also, Abhaighdha, what the hell? O.o

Pronounced?... Afaidyja? Sounds like a disease.

According to the original poster of it, it's pronounced Ava.

I can just about get "Av-aia-dha out of it, which sounds a bit like Ava with a sneeze in it, I guess?

It's something a Cork person says when they're starting a fight.

'D'ya think I'm Afaidyja? Ya Langer, ya!'

Bah I know someone who did just this! I think we all got texts announcing the baby's name so were all like "ah, to honour poor Kathleen that died, how lovely". Cue very pee'd off parents who couldn't understand why everyone was saying the kid's name "wrong".
