His all round game. The fact that he is better at the breaking down play than Xavi Cesc and Iniesta is what gave him his game.

But they are not exactly defensive mids!

Viera and Essien were def mids in all regards

they may have been used as box to box on occasion but that is like saying Hamann was a box to box player

Alves was a right winger when he went there
    Masherano a def mid
    Alba a left mid
    Adriano a winger

Point is thats what Barca do. They put midfielders in def positions because of what your alluding to.

Masherano was never signed for midfield. He was always there top play center back with Pique. Puyol staying longer is the only reason he wasnt there from day one.

Also because of the fact that Barca have so much possession is the reason they can afford to have an average def midfielder playing as long as he is good at the passing side of the game which Song was not, hence not being kept around.

If Busquets was playing that position for Chelsea he would be found out very very fast

So tell me this much. Are Liverpool league champions in this dreamworld you live in? :P

Now if she wouldn't get the big players to come to Liverpool, I don't know what will.

    She shows outstanding...er...character....

She has good experience of being thrown under a bus, which will stand to her.

    Saw these stats on Twitter:

    Most #PressingActions for #LFC vs #Stoke

    36 Milner
    21 Henderson
    14 Clyne, Coutinho & Lallana
    10 Ibe
    7 Can
    5 Benteke
    4 Firmino
    3 Gomez

To summarise, Milner is a machine that makes Henderson and company look like lazy. Benteke looks as though he's Balotelli 2.0 in the pressing department.

I noticed this as well but I'm going to see how it pans out over the next few games.

Will be interesting to see how Rodgers handles Benteke if his pressing stats are consistently poor. Goals come first though and he didn't get much help from the midfield in that regard.

Reflects what we saw to be honest - Benteke is going to have to be coached quite a lot methinks.

I see the club twitter wished Mario a happy birthday anyhow, so not everyone at the club is ignoring him anyhow.

    Ah that's nice.

The person who did it will probably have their desk moved and have to work by themselves though.

I personally hope we keep Mario at this stage.

    - He isnt actually causing any real trouble at the club
    - He still has ability that has yet to be displayed here
    - If we sell him we wont replace him
    - We have loads of games this year in the Europa and domestic cups

These reasons are why I think we should be happy if we dont end up selling him.

I would hate it if we end up loaning him out or selling him and pay his wages. As long as we are paying him I am happy for him to be here and try to fight for a spot in the team.

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/aug/12/jose-enrique-liverpool-alienated-balotelli-borini

“I’m in a difficult position,” Enrique said. “The club have alienated Balotelli, Borini and me. I have a year left on my contract and I imagine the club will want to sell, but I still want to stay and fight as I always have. I will not give up. I know from experience that football changes from day to night. Plus Brendan can't manage a squad, only wants 11 , rest can go to hell”

So Enrique wants to stay does he?

So Enrique wants to stay does he?

Of course he does! Won't get the same wages elsewhere, so will steal another year then get a nice fee for a free transfer...

He won't get paid as much anywhere else basically.

Ol Enrique has disilusions of grandeur it seems. What I take from the article is that he won't get anywhere near as good an offer and therefore is happy to see out the year not playing and pick up his wage, which is fair enough for him but obviously he isn't particularly arsed about his future career.

I was being somewhat rhetorical! While of course musing on the tone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

"I want to fight for my spot!" "Brendan cant manage a squad."

Be honest. Do you really want to fight for your spot? What manager is going to play a player after those sort of comments?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,560 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

It's ridiculous that we still have a 29 year old at the club that is paid tens of thousands a week to play FIFA.

I do that for €188 and I'm not complaining one bit.

    Ok Enrique!

I may be missing it completely but he never once said that Brendan "cant manage a squad" in fact he never mentioned the manager and said "the club have alienated me" rather than any individual

Where did you get that paragraph from????

    This is the real paragraph
“I’m in a difficult position,” Enrique said. “The club have alienated Balotelli, Borini and me. I have a year left on my contract and I imagine the club will want to sell, but I still want to stay and fight as I always have. I will not give up. This section is not in the article you quoted:
Plus Brendan can't manage a squad, only wants 11 , rest can go to hell

You have misquoted Enrique and are misrepresenting the facts.
