Shaqiri was a vital cog in that Bayern machine!

I swear some people don't seem to have understood what the plan was on Sunday, to not lose. Gomez was always going to be the stay at home full back.

So if that was the case then I would have had Ibe in front of him. Why spray the ball left? Around 67th minute Lovren won the ball back well after a bit of Stoke pressure and released Gomez for the counter. Nobody ahead of him but plenty of space to run into. If he's stay-at-home then give an option in front of him, I don't agree that that was the plan though, sure he was very advanced in the last 5mins and even set up Coutinho for the winner.

Again just saying what I saw on the day. You had an imbalance with Ibe and Clyne on the right hand side that meant it was easier for Stoke to predict how we would attack. No options to go down the left on a counter, and I agree with the other poster that Lallana was also part of this problem. Glen Johnson is not the best defensively and I just think we should have exploited that area of the pitch more, especially as he roamed forward often leaving a gap behind.

...what is wrong with his game plan.

He plays a target man striker, without any width and not a single cross. Plays two box to box midfielders hoping one or other will take defensive responsibility, this is really going to catch up with us against the better teams.

I honestly don't think he know what he wants to do with Benteke.

Lol, we'd 5 successful crosses, more than we usually do.

We just didn't get enough support for him or alot of his supply was from Mignolet or aimless Skrtel clearances.

is that not the gist of the article, these players are first team quality players, they are not in Rodgers' plans, they may all try to leave due to this...

There's no quotes or sources at all regarding the players, seems more an opinion piece.

Leaving Moreno out makes sense against Stoke tbh, Sakho haf time off, Lucas less sense but it seemed he wanted a more physical approach. I like Lucas but his biggest weakness is giving away free kicks and yellow cards.

Well the plan changed when Can came on and Lallana went off (and yes he was poor), Rodgers conservative tactic held Stoke and let them do plenty of running about he then sought to push Liverpool forward.

I swear I've never seen a win so taken apart by supporters! It was a very particular game which demanded very particular tactics and strategies. Do not lose, nick one late. It worked.

I think this is a bit of a myth really. You will invariably give away free's when youre basically desparately saving your team a lot.

Lucas always needs a game or two to get match fit but once he's selected more consistently, he becomes an important player for us.

He's still what? 28, 29? I'd be sad if he just stopped being selected at all and was quietly ushered out. He probably thought he had a chance to at least make VC.

Signs dont look good for him though tbh.

Yeah this is true to a large extent. When your striker is isolated and the three players behind him are having very poor games it isn't a surprise we created very little.

Anyone who watched Sterling last night should be able to see why Ibe is light years behind him at the moment. It is Sterling's understanding of the game and movement off the ball that really sets him apart. He moved inside last night, played on the wing, got into the box when the ball was on the other side, played it simple when needed, played give and go when needed and picked his moments to dribble. When you watch Ibe he basically stands deep on the touch line, receives the ball and runs into crowds of players, rinse and repeat. In terms of footballing intelligence they are on different planets at the moment. Firmino will hopefully add that kind of intelligence to our attack.

Sterling is a season or 2 further down the line though.

Ibe can go inside when he wants, he can shield the ball and change the direction of playet easily because of his strength and pace.

Can run down blind alleys a bit but Sterling had his critics early on too.

Because for the last 2 months all we've had is rubbish rumour after rubbish rumour and speculation piled on top of more speculation. It's nice to have an actual game to talk about.

I'd much rather the thread be in meltdown over a win than in meltdown over us paying 15m quid for a Barcelona B player that we never bloody signed.

Have we shifted any of the ****e yet ? I see Enrique linked with west brom tonight.

Borini was linked to West Ham a few days ago, rekindle the feared partnership with Carroll we never got to see. Tragedy.

Suarez must be sick of lifting trophies at this stage. Needs a challenge.

I honestly don't think he know what he wants to do with Benteke.

I thought we used our high balls into Benteke quite well. Usually with purpose rather than just booting it up the field. He won most of them and played them back into midfield. What we lacked was someone right up beside him so he has a much closer option to lay it off to and then turn and go. That's something that will be learned quickly I think.

Firmino in particular I think will benefit from it when he comes into the squad. Benteke was left altogether too isolated, and kept resorting to dropping too deep. Again, I think Lallana was the big culprit. Ibe was obviously told to stick wide - Lallana should have been pulling in to fill that wide open gap and give Benteke an option. Just a bad day at the office for Adam, but I saw enough positives that a few obvious fixes should correct things.

    Wouldn't take him back tbh.

Lifting all those heavy trophies will leave him with chronic back problems in the near future, he would reform the SAS in the physio's room.

Ex Liverpool goalkeeper Peter Hanson scores a nice back heeled volley. He was at the club for six years between youth and senior.

Why add to the squad and make it comparable with the the top 4 teams only to turn around and sell Lucas. Shirley he has to start every Europa league game and Pepsi Cola Cupo.
We need two good sides this season more than ever.

Maybe Lucas thinks he is better than playing in the Europa League, he's not of course but if he wants to leave then so be it.
