Ya can see just how genuine and nice a guy Lowry is by how happy McGinley was. Hopefully the win gives him a big confidence boost and he can go on to do well in the PGA Championship and work towards the Ryder Cup!

Some amount of pints will be had tonight!

Eight months ago, I sat in front of Shane Lowry in Parnell Park. Dublin were playing Offaly in the O'Byrne Cup. (Pre season warm up tourny, for all you non GAA heads.) Every time Offaly scored, (which wasn't all that often :D ,) Shane & his mates tried to get the Mexican wave going.

It was such a ridiculously silly thing to be doing on a bitterly cold night in January, that a bunch of us Dubs joined in, to much hilarity all around. Jim Gavin looked up briefly from the Dubs bench and roared laughing when he saw what was going on. It is the only time I have ever seen Gavin smile during a game & Shane Lowry was responsible for it. He is just that kind of guy. Absolutely delighted for the guy !

After Wentworth last year, I'd wondered was that the turning point for his career that he'd missed out on.

Things had kept moving in the right direction but I wondered if he'd end up a 'what might have been' story.

    This is class. Just class.

Pulled his wedge on 18!! You didn't have to say that. Missus and kids asleep upstairs and there's me leaping around like a monkey. Congratulations Shane. Watched Padraig win 3 majors but that win tops all of them.

How are you meant to sleep after that

So why my reference to GAA was relevant.

He has a genuine connection with all Irish sport.
He seems to have a genuine proud Irish connection.

Tonight at end of Sunday game they held up picture of Shane.

You may think that was bizarre. But his connection with all Irish sport is not something I've seen before.

I think Kaymer did just enough to stay ahead of him in the rankings and I also think that Brooks Koepka's tie for 6th keeps him ahead of Shane, which means he will be 20th in tomorrow's rankings if my calculations are correct.

He pulled it a good 15-20 yards... he was playing for front right of green.. it looked like it was going left of the flag until it hit the branches.

    Great miss :)

Thrilled for the lad, and what a lad he is.
