I don't mind another 37 league games like that as long as the result is the same :)

I'd be well happy with that. GD +38. :)

FYP. Performance doesn't matter this early in the season though, so I don't even mind.

So don't fix my post so.

You looked slightly better when Lallana went off.

    He's a bit of a nothing player,isn't he?

    A poor mans Mcmanaman.

He's got good technique but nothing else. Poor physically,no brain and dallies too much on the ball.

Delighted. 3 points and a clean sheet at a very tough ground. Should definitely take a bit of nervousness out of our play.

How could anyone want him to turn it around when they don't want to see him being given a chance in the first place? I was quite happy for Lovren to start, since Sakho was unavailable apparently. I'd always prefer Skrtel and Sakho to start our matches, but when Lovren comes in, I'm fully behind him and I don't expect him to let us down much this season tbh.

    Based on what? Blind faith?

We pay £32.5m for a striker I'd want most of his touches in the box.

Most of Benteke's touches came outside the box

Balotelli had to come deep for the ball whenever he played last season I really don't want to have to see Benteke do the same this season.

I guess with Arsenals result it shows it doesn't really matter how or who you play pre season, they've gone from League winners to season written off already!

Have you seen him play for Lyon? Have you seen him play for Southampton?

It's not blind faith if you know what he's capable of.

    LoLing all over the place.

    Top, top results today.

Stoke have a way of slowing and nullifying any team's style and attack. Even when it doesn't look like they're doing anything special in defence they're organisation, awareness and reactions are brilliant. They stop teams playing. So I'm not too worried we were made to look the way we were. Right now, anyway.

3 points with lessons learned in one of the hardest fixtures of the season, in our first competitive match in months... is a great outcome.

Big difference today is we actually have options from the bench, team was virtually picking itself last year and when you had sterling not performing there was no way to leave him on the bench for a couple of weeks and get a bit of hunger back

In fairness it was against Stoke, they've always been tight at the back

2 excellent DMs babysitting him at Southampton.

Didn't see him play at Lyon but I've heard he had 1 good season.

I saw every minute he played in a Liverpool shirt last season so I know how **** he's capable of being.

He was good today and I hope it continues. I don't want him to fail.

Besides the goal my favourite moment was, and as someone mention earlier, with 6-7 minutes to go and next goal basically wins, Clyne nipped in a head of Diouf, after starting behind him, to head the ball away for a corner. Skrtel and Lovren had their hands up for offside. Last year Johnson would have been doing the same and Diouf would have chested it down and picked his spot.
Clyne is the black Steve Finnan!

So are most teams that Liverpool play? Benteke will very rarely have running room. These packed defences that we need to unlock are exactly what he is going to have to deal with most of the time as a Liverpool player.

    Bit of a strange post.

I would be very surprised if any non-substitute player has ever had more touches in the box than out of it in a game.

Maybe if they had absolutely no impact on the general play and existed solely to put the ball in the net, but I don't if any player has ever actually been that limited in their scope of play.

I couldn't give a ****e where he touches the ball as long as he scores.

Sturridge plays the ball outside the box all the time, and he scores loads of goals, and there's plenty more top strikers who do the same.

To be honest, I'd rather him come back and play with midfield. Players like Mario Gomez who sit in the 6yard box irritate the hell out of me.

Can't judge Benteke on one away game at the start of the season. We played clever today, not committing men forward, Benteke was very much alone up there. Chelsea won the league playing this way away from home in tough fixtures, I would take the same performance and result away to United Everton Arsenal City...

Milner brings in the experience the team lacks

Yeah, I don't understand how somebody couldn't understand why Milner was signed!

We're hardly over run with CM's. Hopefully the club will concentrate on spending big money their next.

As for Sakho, Rodgers would have known he'd need time off around now, and he's no midwife! Obviously why he preferred Lovren up to now. Sakho should get back in but if Lovren keeps playing like today it wouldn't be a dead cert, and we'd have another option at CB. Lovren needs his confidence restored, bit like Mignolet last season.

The amount of normal sane people who become Conspiracy Theorists went it comes to football though. Maybe it's just a Rodgers thing, I don't know.

Arsenal away to a confident Palace and then have a really tough home fixture. They could find themselves in bottom 3 for few weeks now.

If we have learned that lesson on how to play like Chelsea that is great I am all for winning ugly forget the sexy football till you have won the league.

I will take 37 more games like that if it means we get top 4 or win the league.

Again to me it just looked like we weren't playing to Benteke's strengths like last season when we didn't play to Balotelli's & Lambert's strengths.

Benteke might be a better player than both of them and will be able to adapt to dropping deep then great.

Penny has dropped for Rodgers, maybe it's the influence of the new backroom staff. Today we done what was needed in a really tough away game. I could not careless about how many touches Benteke had as it was all part of the ''planned'' tactics to play as we did.

Here's hoping that whenever that Coutinho volley comes down from space, it whacks Charlie Adam right in the face.

Don't judge any of the players too much on today.

Stoke are píssy to play against, and Rodgers had the system wrong for 60 minutes. The minute Can came on, Milner and Hendo could support the attack and actually try to hurt Stoke. It's a novel idea, having your midfielders do what they're actually best at. You'd wonder why he didn't think of it to start with.

Lallana would've looked a lot better if he'd had 30 minutes as part of the second system.

This was not a good day from Rodgers, but he had an ace in the hole that rescued him.
