Calling someone that isn't your Dad 'Father' has always sounded creepy to me, especially considering the recent history of the church. Call him by his first name.

I've always called priests by their first name, just like everyone else in society.

It's his title. If you don't like that, tough.

I am sure someone will be along any moment to abuse the church to no end, please stand by.

Yeah, it's not like the church ever abused anybody. People have no respect these days.

Only if you are a member of the faith the title refers to. Otherwise there is no special privilege As he/she is just a person to one outside of the Religion.

I would address anybody with their title irrespective of their religion. Be they Imam, Rabbai or any other. It's called common respect and manners.

I would in a Religious setting for example being invited to a wedding anywhere inside the Religious building ofc but outside that they are just a person. I'm guessing ones manners and respect extend to the westboro baptist church Or the Satanic church any number of Religious groups ? Or would they just be people.

I'm sure ones respect for Titles would extend to the Grand Dragon of the KKK as well seen as we are being all mannerly and respectful. :pac:

P.S. : we were also thinking of going to rome for the wedding, when is the big fella available?

Alright! First off thanks for your seven pages of replies, I didn't expect to be overwhelmed by so many replies!
Taking in account the majority I'll go with Dear Father LastName.

    To reply some of you:
It's a letter/email for thanking him and to send a few lines of information.
Is where he lives important? I don't think so.
Is Eircode necessary? Probably yes, but then I'll have to retrieve it...
Thanks a million, I laughed a lot reading your posts :-)

    No need for the eircode.

I'm going to write a letter or an email to a catholic parish priest in Ireland (I live in Italy, you know).
So how would you addrees a message to him?
Dear Father, Hi Father, or just Father? Or else?

I don't know him well, I just talked to him once for about 15 minutes.
    Thanks! :)

    It really doesn't matter.

As long as there's money in the envelope.
