I'm answering that based on the question you asked in post #6140, would I be troubled the answer is No, now that you have moved the goalposts the answer is no I haven't spent time to my knowledge, but if I had to it wouldn't trouble me.

Glad To Be Of Help. :)
    is it aviation speak? ;)

    I wouldn't think so.

I think the obvious part was that GTBOH seems a bit unusual in such a post, it didn't really make sense. Whereas the "SO" was a little bit more obvious (imo). The OP should have been more specific, but the reaction to it was OTT.

Yep that is the video. I landed from Bristol at 2 ish, bit gusty. However, my experience with ATR is often they landed skew, or one wheel first! It feels as if their landing speed is high, presumably to push through cross wind?

Anyone else using FR24 website on a tablet, not the app.

I've noticed that since the weekend, I cannot get information on specific flights on a the left side column anymore. Have tried changing the settings a few time but no joy. This is not a problem on PC or Laptop just iPad.

Looks like I'll have to cave in and buy the app

I could never get FR to run in any browser on an iPad without it crashing within a few seconds. Only the app is stable.

The ATR has a trailing link type main under carriage. The one wheel first method is normal for crosswind landings and the first wheel down takes the majority of the initial impact. It can then be controlled over to the other main gear for a smoother landing.

In the case of a full crosswind ie. no headwind component then there should be no addition speed added to the final approach speed. If however there are gusts then the gust in full will be added to the approach speed for example if the wind was 15 knots gusting to 25 knots then the difference, in this case 10 knots is added to the approach speed. This may be the increased speed you felt.

I think in emergency situations, it wouldn't be advisable to re-route over the sea or try and find an unpopulated area. But more knowledgeable people should be able to clarify.

You may as fuel will have long evaporated before it reaches the ground. The lowest you may dump fuel is 5000ft, at that level the only noticeable thing is a faint smell of fuel.

Generally dumps are done away from busy airspace so other aircraft doesn't fly through any dumped fuel.

Its a 777, why are they dumping fuel?

Because they declared an emergency (often due to an unwell passenger). The flight was from LHR to LAX. Seeing as it was early in the flight there would have been alot of fuel on board. Therefore the aircraft would be very heavy and overweight for a normal landing, hence the need to dump fuel to bring the aircraft weight down to a safer level before landing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,664 ✭✭✭✭smurfjed

OK, thats one reason, but why didn't they land overweight?
