Guys, will machine polishing remove swirl marks on a car. The focus was always chronic bad with swirl marks, the minute sun hits it they show up. Are the likes of halfords ones any good? Is machine polishing foolproof, or can it make things worse?

Having worked there I can safely say, you'd be a fool to buy them, you might as well just set your money on fire as that would yield greater benefit

And what kind of results can be yielded from a machine polisher. I mean, will it restore paintwork to a clear finish (assuming the scrapes are swirl marks and not too deep), or does it disguise them?

Any links to a cheaper good one? Does one use compound too or what?

I think thats more to do with the polish, im not too up to scratch (no pun intended) on all this to be honest

It will remove most if not all swirls and light marks.
I have done a few and they turned out super from what they were.

If you keep your eyes peeled you would often see them for sale S/H.

I hadn't polished car so far this year, so last weekend de-tarred it and used Mer car polish, friend gave me some Auto Glym HD wax, applied that yesterday. I've never clayed car and must do, thinking of getting that Collinite wax I've seen in posts here, or would there be better/ more suitable for silver metallic?

Hard to go wrong with choice of wax, all in preparation. Collonite and Bilthamber finis-wax are good choices though.

Question, what is an enhancement detail?

    Depends on detailer.

But basically a thorough wash, cleanse of paint and good polish to remove paint defects followed by protection of choice (wax/sealant).

A company has a competition on, one has to choose either a full valet or an enhancement detail as the potential prize. I know every car is different/different condition, but would I be right in saying the valet would be most worthwhile?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭edburg

Valet be a wash in hoover in and out.

Detail to me takes another step to me. But depends on that companies translation of detail.

If i did at business imo the detail be better option as it the valet plus more, but that's me.

If the company is implying that a full valet and an enhancement detail are of equal value, then I'd question their interpretation of an enhancement detail...or perhaps their full valet is extremely thorough, including a wet vac, and a decent amount of work done on the outside.

An enchancement detail to me is a wash, full decontaminated, a single stage machine polish (to remove light damage and thus restoring depth, gloss and shine), re-wash to strip the polishing oils, dry, wax/sealant, wheels cleaned / decontaminated, tyres dressed, glass cleaned....which is quite a bit of work.

Need to tidy the trim at some point in the future as there's Polish embedded, APC and a brush should sort it.

This is their process of an enhancement detail (taken from their page). Seems to be fairly comprehensive.

Yeah; can't fault that!! Their full valet must be a fairly in depth cleaning of both interior and exterior so!

Meh didn't win it, t'fcuk with them anyway!

Are ye any good with power washer diagnostics around here? Have a nilfisk c120 and when it's left down (switch on lance not being pressed) it constantly starts and stops by itself, just for about a second, then goes quiet for a few seconds, then the pump would start on/off for a second etc (almost like it's trying to keep pressure up in the hose). Today though, the same started happening as I'm using the lance, pump works, dribbles out a bit then knocks off, starts again instantly and repeats the procedure. Any ideas?

    Is the pump struggling Noccy?

And that detail... the language just used just leaves a bad taste in my mouth... wtf is a deep car clean... quality shampoo, not pH neutral shampoo. Waxing the car using a sealant. The language is just a bit poor for me. I'd wonder do they know what they are on about, particularly at the price level. Don't know though, just my sense at a surface level. Don't want these guys just running a rotary over your car quickly, leaving buffer trails and a few pigtails and calling it a one step enhancement detail.

Does struggle a bit, can take a while for pressure to build up when it was working fine. Pump doesn't get a chance to struggle now due to the constant stop starting.

    Is the water pressure good.
Mine does that for the first 30 seconds or so after reconnecting it. Slight air lock. Also, if I leave it sitting, it pulses every 3 mins or so.
