That's making the assumption that a God was there to start with...

But "IF" a God ever existed, and left us to our own devices, it would probably be a right of passage... like the baby chicks leaving the nest.
They either flap their wings and fly, or splat at the bottom of the cliff.

It would be a test.
Not an individual test, but a collective test for the species.
