Stopping at roundabout

    Hi lets say I'm in 3Rd gear and I see the sign that a roundabout is ahead how do I stop effectively by the roundabout line if there are numerous cars on the roundabout ? Do I change into 2 before I near the line then put the break down slightly then put the clutch down and balance the car with the clutch until the roundabout is clear or do I slow down and change to 1 and use clutch control then move off ?

    I'm confused on how to stop at junctions and roundabouts if there are numerous cars passing

    Well you're obviously not gonna go onto the roundabout if there's anything on it that'll hit you, so you'd have to stop either way.

    I'd advise, upon seeing that the roundabout is busy, and you're in third gear, you release the accelerator and let the car slow under it's own momentum, perhaps with a slight tap on the brakes if the roundabout is getting closer, too fast.

    Change down to second gear, and continue without the accelerator. Let the car continue until it's time to stop and then depress the clutch and brake slowly to a full stop.


    If you go straight from 3rd gear to a stop, chances are you are coming to a stop too suddenly and (whether true or not) it'll look like you didn't anticipate the roundabout and it caught you off guard.



    That said, if you see the sign for a roundabout, don't just start slowing down straight away. Just do it at a realistic manner (some signs for roundabouts are placed quite a bit back, and you don't want to be dawdling along in 2nd gear to a roundabout that's 500 meters away :P
