Quite a few Mayo dropouts have gone on to play for other counties in recent years - aside from the players that went to the overseas teams there has been BJP to Armagh, O'Malley to Wicklow, Kilcullen to Sligo and now Ruddy to Sligo as well.

I watched the 2011 final (the one with the really bad wind and rain, but worse when they played against it according the the Rossies) from the terrace in the Hyde, and only the top of my head got wet as it was so packed the rain had nowhere to go.

Judging by the uptake in our club you'd want to get a move on. It'll sell out I think.

Possibly some welcome news that the joint management are looking at means to protect our full back line and address the much talked about defensive frailties we have.

Donie at 3 and Jason 15 seem slightly odd but for no reason other than used to seeing both at half back and half forward.
Jason used to be a regular on the full forward line before. Hoping he can regain that ability to bury loads of goals in games he had a few years back, that was in the FBD mind.

I'd expect to see Doc swich with AOS. The backs will be shuffled around, like KM79 said.

Overall, it's strong line-up. I wonder if Keane's injury is serious? He has been fairly solid this year but Caff is a quality replacement.

That would be the more usual format alright.

It was actually the NFL rather than the FBD.

He got 7 in the league in 2012 I think.

New management but more or less the same team the last management Would pick. Surprising or to be expected?

If Regan was not just coming back from injury, I think he'd possibly start ahead of Andy, that's probably the only change I'd like to see.

The team were barely a kick of the ball away from an All Ireland the last few years and no-one has retired, so no need for drastic changes. I'd be more inclined to see what kind of different tactics they employ to be honest; the players that are there are good enough.

Hardly surprising, they're the best players in the county(give or take a player) and have lost 3 championship games in 3 years, including 2 All Ireland's and a semi final replay to the eventual AI champions.
I think it's fairly commonly agreed that Mayo have the players to win an All Ireland, we just need some system tweaks at this stage as opposed to a complete overhaul.

Doherty will just go to midfield, he was named at 15 in the last game if I'm correct and spent most of the game acting as a roving half-forward. I thought Horan got the best out of him, deploying him on the wing where he became an extra midfielder, winning kickouts, getting up and down the pitch.

His role under C&H is probably similar as Aidan will be given a lot of freedom so the midfield have to accomodate this somehow.

Anyone else feeling 'meh' about Sunday?

Obviously it's a great achievement to be aiming for 5 in a row, but I miss the build up to a Mayo V Galway final with nothing between them....

I'm a little bit like this myself. When the ball is thrown in there will be some excitement but it's not a Connacht Final with much going for it.

No two cars going from here with the lads on board so should be good Craic if it stays dry it would help but its not looking good.
Good few pints will be had when we get back Sunday providing we have the cup, sure what else do ya want.

    Far from it actually.

Personally I have not had the chance to see many live games this year so I'm really looking forward to it.

But it's also the beginning of the real stuff, we have waited so long between games and now if we win this we know there is an outing in CP on August 8th.
And in the meantime we can be looking at who the possible opponents may be and who we hope they may be.
An possible SF opponents will be determined at that point too, so between Sunday and August 8th we will have plenty to think about.

With the exception of D O' Connor and the possible introduction of Regan there is no new players introduced to this team in the past few years

And that is a major worry.

As I said last year the team does not need major overhaul but it does need fresh blood in certain areas, unfortunately that has not happened.

Yes these guys have been close to winning it all but yet they have not, and I fear that they may not ever

I recall coming out of the 9th loss to Kerry in the 2011 SF full of hope because these guys and Horan showed us that they were on the up.

The night of the Final loss to Donegal I looked at the program and realized that the average age of these guys was around 25.

But whne we lost to Dublin in 2013 it was if the last chance for a number of years may have gone, and I felt the same the night after they lost to Kerry in Limerick, and even worse the next day when we saw that it was Donegal and not Dublin in the final.

I'd love to be able to compare this Mayo team to the Cork team from the mid '00s.
The Cork team that were knocked out of the championship 5 years in a row by Kerry in either the final or SF, but they hung around and eventually in 2010 they got to a final and meet a team that were not that accustomed to being there, and they managed a win.

Mayo need the luck that Cork team had.
Since '04 Mayo have always faced juggernauts in AI finals.
They need to catch a break to win one at this stage, Cork or Kerry beat Dublin, Monaghan or even Galway or Tyrone progress from the other side, something like that.

One can only hope, otherwise the names Keith Higgins, Andy Moran, Seamus O' Shea will go down in history just like the names Willie Joe Padden, T.J. Kilgannon, Liam McHale

We are beginning to sound like Roscommon lads.....
