Spotted a few lovely old houses near Shankill, which unfortunately look like they're about to be knocked. Thought I'd take a few snaps before they're gone.

Yes, it's a shame to see them go. Though mind you, you couldn't see them at all until they started cutting all the trees around them a few weeks back....Going to be apartments built on the site I hear.

There's about 58 houses planned for the site. You could never see the 3 houses till the trees were cut.

I can't understand why they are bothering to put them out , there do to be demolished, their fairly isolated so flames won't spread to other houses.

Open doors and windows mixed with dry wood carpets etc mixed with partial removal of anything worth of value topper of with Faulty electricals etc.

Or perhaps denial of planning permission, possibility of large demolition costs due to hazardous materials such as asbestos.

No, they all "caught" fire. Given the physical distance btwn the houses, must be deliberate.

Ahem. I remember there was an old, large protected house at the corner of the Phoenix Park racecourse, next to Ashtown roundabout, about 15 years ago and developers wanted to build houses everywhere on the racecourse.

Coincidentally, around this time that big old house suffered arson and they were given permission to pull it down and build what they wanted.
