Found this guy in the glovebox of the Corolla.. Apparently they came with the car when they left the factory :D

Looks like I'll be using it soon.. It seems that the previous owner had trouble putting the key into the lock :(

Picking up all new cleaning bits tomorrow after work. Still need to get alloys and a few other bits for the car - who knew trying to get original 4x100 Toyota alloys would be so hard :pac:

Looking at it again, its down to a person opening the door with the bunch of keys in their hands I'd say.
If it were me, I'd machine polish the area rather attempting to use a touch up kit

Elderly woman had it before me and I can remember that she had a lot of keys on her keyring alright!
To be honest, I wont be touching that 'touch up kit'. Something about it that I just wouldnt trust (although it came from Toyota themselves). Think I might just leave it unopened so it can impress its next owner :p

Looking for a bit of advice here too. Picked up the wife's new focus last weekend. Managed to get it washed, a coat of blacklight followed by a coat of c845 and the windows cleaned and sealed with the carlack twins. Wanted to get a second coat of 845 on but time ran out.

Dave, need to get appropriate shampoo to give it a wash before applying more 845 and also want to clean and seal the alloys next weekend. I have detar and de-iron so really just need a sealer and possibly tyre dressing if it's not too dear. Also, cracked the bottle of carlack sealer so need to replace with a similar product. What would you recommend?

I've a new 508 which I'd like to give a bit of a clean and dress the tyres.

I bought the products listed in my post above after many EMails with Curran of this parish.

Probably for me the most important product I bought was the neutral shampoo. Before I was using an old Simoniz shampoo which I think contained some wax. This appeared to be dulling the car after washing!

All the products I now use seem to compliment one another.

Also of course make sure you wash the car with the two bucket method and some good microfibre mitts.

I was out in #Cork city last week carrying out a headlight restoration.

I resorted full clarity to these lenes then coated them with Optimum Polymer Technologies - Opti Lens.

Not a detail but gave the work horse a decent clean and quick coat of nano seal by Autobrite last week. Happy enough as cars have been left little short and siigy not had decent polish since last Septmeber and just a general wash n top up.

True as said was just a quick body wash to try out the nano seal.

Guys, will machine polishing remove swirl marks on a car. The focus was always chronic bad with swirl marks, the minute sun hits it they show up. Are the likes of halfords ones any good? Is machine polishing foolproof, or can it make things worse?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,245 ✭✭✭myshirt

Forget Halfords, wasting your time. What you need as a basic entry model is a Das 6. It is random oscillating so is as fool proof as you'll get, depending on the fool. Really though, to be fair, risk of burn through is low, risk of back breaking work and time implications is high.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,690 ✭✭✭✭vectra

If you do get a das 6 just make sure you get the pro version.

Vacuum, wash, snow foam, 2 buckets, usual stuff etc

Then a coat of Pentawax by 50Cal - very impressed with it, nice deep/wet look - the car has 120,000 mile on it so she scrubbed well. I got a load of mini bottles of 50Cal stuff from a guy who imports it so I'll keep going with the bits and see what it's like.
