well done on the parkrun M, great going! well paced. The best of luck for next weekend, you've really done the work so I hope it goes well and that above all you enjoy it :-)

Excellent! Big congrats on that super pb and really well paced race! Delighted for you and WANT WANT WANT that 5k time!!!

You will have it Ososlo. No question given the recent sessions from previous weeks. But (from my own experience with parkrun) it might not be "linear" in getting there , not always easy to predict/pace.

Hope you are feeling 100% soon.

Thanks FD, and hope it's not too much of a comedown to be back to maritime training conditions. Sounds like you had a great trip.

Finally doing some catching up around here. Congrats on the pb, sounds like you got the pacing spot on. Those hills are paying off.

Yeah well done, HR. Knew you had a PB but didn't realise it was such an emphatic one. Good luck at the weekend.

    Emmmm.... feeling *hopeful* ....

On a super-taper right now because the rib pain from last week has been worse since Monday (I thought it was maybe a slightly-twisted rib muscle from my Thursday run). Headed to the GP today and there is a slight possibility that I have slightly-fractured a rib, and also a slight possibility it could be connected to the cough stuff I had all this spring. X-ray done this afternoon.

On the positive side it is the most satisfying GP visit I ever had in the NHS. Turns out she started running the past year through C25k ..so instead of getting kicked out of my urgent-appt with antibiotics, instead the meeting ended with a long chat about parkrun, the Edinburgh 10k last month, jogscotland and hills .... I was the one moving towards the door at the end ;). Overall was listened to, and had my suspicions and symptoms taken into account . Have never been seen by this GP before so not sure the better treatment was influenced by the running but it was nice.

I have not been banned from doing the 7hills. And the X-ray results probably won't be back by then. If it's no worse I'll go ahead and do it (she said to take a couple of ibuprofen that morning). Would say it's 90%.

Don't need any consolation or sympathetic messages because it's pretty minor compared to other things in life, and anyway I've got very philosophical about injury/health stuff this past year. If I can do it great, if not I've had some good recces (and a parkrun PB) :). So no worries.

Ok, no sympathy? Nurofen plus on the morning on a full stomach and off you go.
I wish you all the very best and have a super day.

...plus you have a great base for DCM training! so no consolation from me :)

Ok, no sympathy then (well maybe just a smidge).

That's great about the GP, it makes all the difference when they 'get' running, or sport in general. Hope you'll have a diagnosis shortly.

Decent weather request would be sympathetic.
    I'm really getting into this.

Would not wishing someone the best be borderline ;)

Forecast looks all right in fact, looks similar to conditions of my final recce, cloudy and a bit warm but not too warm. I will check again on Saturday eve.

Will run three very slow miles this evening but will skip Pilates because the internet says I shouldn't do that if ribs might be fractured :) [please don't anyone be surfing the internet to see other things I shouldn't be doing]

Nooooo, not the time to be making me laugh with the ribs this sensitive ....

    Thursday, 18th June: 5miles @9:45 avg pace
First run of the week, done on the flat, taking it easy. Ribs sore, even from the mild twisting/impact of easy running :(.

Verdict now is that I'm a no for Sunday unless the ribs improve. Don't want to make it worse & if it was still like this I wouldn't be able to 'race' it anyway, I would only be getting round. Picking up the pace will only make the pain worse, and the scrambles en-route will probably be hard on the ribs.

I had taken ibuprofen (just the vanilla option, not the 'plus') 2-3 hours before doing out this evening but it's not as effective as I'd hoped.

I can have some hope (if it's not a fracture) because I did have similar pain to this about a year+ ago, and that died away after a number of days. But we'll see. I'll decide for sure on Saturday evening.

I'm really sorry to hear that, I know how much training you were putting in for it particularly. Hopefully you'll be on the mend soon and as crap as it is you're best to take the long term view. Easier said than done I know.

Me too, I really really hope it mends by sat night but if not you're making the right decision as hard as that is. The good news is that all your training will stand to you for whatever your next adventure might be.

Bummer, M, but don't take any risks on it... you won't do yourself justice on the 7 hills if you are not fully fit and you could make it much worse.

Lovely photo of you on the St Anne's FB page for last weeks race.
Can't find myself and side kick and BG must have been too fast.

Yeeuch. Had seen the photographer too, I guess the tactic of whipping out the smile is not foolproof. I guess I look comfortable even if a bit strange ...

There is one of you chatting before the race (and one of Denis too)

Keeping everything crossed for you. Sounds like you'll make the right/sensible call anyway. Some taper eh?! ;)

I was thinking that too (only *one* of the 5milers).

Ah we'll see. Maybe a smidgen better today but still not good enough to run on ...

A *bit* better today again, but still looking like no. Will see how I feel in the morning before I take any ibuprofen ... but I wouldn't be booking tomorrow off work if I was you!
