Disadvantage payment is now known as areas of natural constraint. This is part of irelands RDP 2014-2020 which is currently pending eu commission appproval so no details available on this scheme just yet. As far is i know the areas of natural constraint are being revised following the publication of the irelands new soil map prepared by teagasc and the epa so lands previously designated as disadvantaged may not b necessarily designated as areas of natural constraints. The new areas will conincide with areas of known production hapicaps i.e. poor soils. Previously the disadvantaged areas were based on known socio - economic information.

If you have no stock in your own Herd number you will not qualify with b and b stock registered under someone elses herd number. To qualify for DAS you will need to have minimum stock level in your herd for 7 consecutive months in this calendar year.

    Quick question
We've under stocked this year and very tempted to let neighbour graze some of the fields.
We're going to do correctly with B&B, but he intends using his springers.
If these should calve while in B&B, do they get his tag or mine?

If they calve on your holding, then they must be tagged with your tags.

Cattle under B&B arrangments are not suitable for DA stocking rate. you may get away with it however if department check and find you do not own the cattle they will recoup the payment. Cattle owned and farmed at owner risk are those that should only be used for DAS stocking rates.

QQ on this, if your minimum stocking rate was determined to be 10 cattle, >24month, but you ended up with 20 of these cattle, would this reduce the total length of time you would need to keep them in your heard or is the 7 consecutive months set in stone?

The seven months are set in stone as i learnt to my cost by being 5 days short of the limit and losing my DAS payment!

Thanks for that, was thinking the case but had to be sure.
Will have them for only 4 weeks, hopefully they carry a little longer

That's some kick in the stones, worth remembering this year you also have to have an average over the year of 0.15.

I know a guy contract rearing heifers cattle are transferred to his herd when reared and paid in full they are transferred back with movement permits
This gives peace of mind of being paid in full and he can use stock for das as they are legally in his own heard until reared.
