Sheep Grazing

    I recently purchased 10 lambs to eat down 2 acres of grass around our house. The problem is that 1 acre is in a meadow and has gone to seed so it's very high. I have the lambs on this acre for the last couple of days.

    I am interested in getting some thoughts on whether i need more sheep to eat it down or if I should just cut the grass. Also is there any possible negative effects for the sheep for grazing a strong meadow like this.

    All suggestions and comments greatly appreciated

    They'll be fine. Sheep in general don't like long grass. What will happen is they will bare some patches down and leave the longer stems alone. When this happens you should top it.

    Thanks, my concern is they will get lame. 3 are a little lame at mo, check feet and nothing obviously. Any thoughts.....

    My suggestion on grass is, go for hedge lucern which is will have good proteins and vitamins. Also this is a multi cutter grass with more than 5 years life span. Please let me know for any other information in this regards.
