Wind calmer now and no showers in the immediate vicinity of Dublin anymore, the planes should get down faster now

Really, really, really loud thunder about 20 minutes ago at Howth Head and some rumblings about 10 mins ago. No lightning spotted by me.

I can hear planes back on approach now.

We just had serious hailstones in D9. I'm guessing weather related.

Omni Air trooper B763 N423AX out of Azerbaijan or perhaps somewhere even farther east

    http://fr24.com/B763/661ca76

    Westbound towards Drogheda

Interestingly FR only shows the sector from Bucharest but Planefinder also has the earlier hop

Overhead SNN now is a very late running EI138 for DUB, it appears it diverted to St Johns on the way last night

It was allegedly a medical emergency. I'm waiting on its arrival so that I can head stateside.

First 737 I've ever seen flying this long of a distance - Lagos, Nigeria to Heathrow :o Wouldn't fancy spending 6 hours and 30 mins in one

Anyone up to speed with this Periscope thing you can get on an iPhone where you can stream pretty good video quality live to the internet? Could be fun once or twice to do some live spotting and post the results live in here ;) (Personally I need to get an iPhone!)

Westjet Halifax to Glasgow operated by a 737-700 started today. 5 hrs 50 minutes westbound (or 5ish hours eastbound)

It's around the same length many Scandinavian - Canary Island flights flown by many airlines including Ryanair.

Arik only has 148 seats on their -800 as they have a business class so I don't imagine why spending 6+ hours on board would be any worse than any transatlantic flight from Ireland.

10:40 Rats, missed that one passing over the south! Kelowna Flightcraft DC-10 heading for Brussels

    http://fr24.com/KFA206/665813c

Some info about the service here:

    http://www.cargoforwarder.eu/2015/02/25/exclusive-cargo-carrier-kelowna-lands-at-brussels/
The intention is to fly Toronto-Brussels-Toronto 4 days a week, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Bryan: “We fly here, unload and reload and fly right back maintaining a spare crew in Brussels".

How do they choose which route to take for the transatlantic flights? There are some drastically different routes being taken today. Is it the individual airlines who choose?
