I am using an IBC to store water pumped from a river. The tank will be filled every couple of days.
Just wondering should I keep the IBC covered with a tarpaulin or maybe paint it, to both protect the plastic from UV damage and also to stop algae growing in the water.
The IBC has clear plastic. I had the option of a black one, but I figured not being able to see the water levll in it would be a pain.

If I do paint it, I could leave a free 12" strip down the side to see the water.

Get a pair of your lady's tights or your own, fill with straw should keep clear. Guys do it with ponds and it works

Has to be barley straw though, don't know why though.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Table spoon of bluestone (copper sulphate) will keep it crystal clear and it will serve as a copper supplement Also !

We collect rainwater in An ibc, it's outside 24/7/365.. Freezes solid in winter and in full sun during summer. Only once seen algi grow in it and that was from maybe 4-6 weeks without being ran, just sitting there. I just threw in hypachloride and it cleared.

So for drinkers if it's emptying every few days it should he fine. An I couldn't see and bother from sun damage on the plastic, ours is maybe 10 years in place and is good as the first day.
