Analog smoker for 8 years, took up vaping last year and really enjoyed it, It's a better smoke than actual tobacco but come how can we say it's healthy for us either and plus i'v spent more on devices and juice than i would spend in a year on fags. So has anyone on here given up vaping?

No one will ever say it is healthy, or even harmless. But it seems to be widely considered to be several orders of magnitude less harmful than smoking.

Where did you hear it was healthy ? its better then smoking yes,but healthy ????
As for cost i would spend €70+ a week on smokes id be hard pressed to spend that a month on vapeing unless it was extremely pricey juice in the same month i bout a new device.

Some of us can get a bit carried away buying every new shinny thing we see and end up with a shelf of stuff they rarely use

Do what you want, obvious troll.
You mustnt have smoked much to say youve spent more vaping.

Over 200 posts each and you haven't learned that personal abuse is not allowed. Any more of this and it's a short holiday.

I'm slowly reducing my nic. Started 1 year ago at 18mg. Been through 14, 12, 9 I'm at 7 now next mix I'll use 6mg-20% flavour so it'll be 4.8mg. Dunno if I'll stop when I hit 0mg. Might just do it as a habit rather than an addiction. Plus it's a hobby of mine :-)

After 8 years on the smokes, you still needed a substitute. But after a year on the e-cigs, you can quit. This in itself shows that e-cigs can help wean you off the smokes easier.

I personally know one person who still vapes his 0mg e-cigs when out drinking, purely because when he drinks, he wants a smoke. Another lad I know is down to 6mg.

Personally, I started on the high mg (18-24mg), and am still on them.

I spend in a month now what I spent in a week or two with the rollies. My "winter cough" has never returned, and my fingers are no longer yellow. Some things can't be counted in monetary forms only.

can you start low and go high...my case is that i vape a 12 mg juice but i go through a 10ml bottle in like a day or two....so if i up it to 18 (24 is too harsh for my liking) in theory i should cut down right?

but want to get rid of nic content all together am i going about it arseways? 12 is a nice vape but i have it in me mouth nearly all day every day

I've been vaping 0mg for about six weeks now and have no intention of giving it up just yet, I enjoy it.

My little sister was on 24mg for a year, then stopped entirely about 6 months ago. She keeps an ego, ce5 and 0mg liquid for if she's out drinking.

I gave up vaping five weeks ago. Now I fully agree that it's miles better for you than the analogs, but I found myself vaping way more than I'd ever smoke.

    Yes this is true.
I vape pretty much all day long, thats the beauty of vaping though, when you smoked you had to smoke the whole fag in one go, instead of vaping a couple of hits then pockleting your device until you fancy another one.
I'm not convinced the nic hit is even close to being the same though.
I have to vape a lot to get the same headrush that I'd get from smoking say two fags in a row.

Thinking of giving up myself. I've been vaping nearly 3 years now. I constantly have it in my hand.

Got a flu a couple of weeks ago i and I find that I'm still coughing.

Don't really want to stop though bit I'm definitely thinking that I need to soon.

How long were you on the shmokes?

On 20 a day I could spend 270  a month on analogues. One off payment of 45 for a really good tank, 45 for a decent mod = 90. Generally spend about 40 - 50 on juice. What were you buying?!?

I dont smell of smoke any more, I dont wake up with half a pint of phlegm in my mouth any more. If there is a gale blowing outside I can just vape on the couch. Have a 10hour flight in a few weeks time and will be able to vape on the plane.

Its probably not healthy for you but I think it is much less unhealthy than smoking.

How much were you smoking before? For example, going from a 20-a-day habit to 10mg juice will mean you aren't getting the same "hit" that your body is used to.

Two reasons I vape more; I can stop when I want, and not have to finish the smoke I'm having, and it still works out cheaper. I'd have to vape a 30ml bottle in a week to make it more expensive, and unless you're on a sub-ohm that's a decent bit of vaping, imo.

Double check that, as some planes don't allow you to. If you can only use their gizmos, maybe bring a small bottle of your own juice to top it up? Or does anyone know if that's allowed?

My smoking cost me about 140 per week, maybe 160 if I was drinking on the weekend (40 a day at the age of 25!).

Vaping costs me approximately 35 per month :)

And no, you cannot vape on a plane! Bathroom smoke detectors can go off from vapour exhaled too.

It seems Aer Lingus prohibit their use. Doesn't bother me. Since starting vaping, I find I no longer have the serious cravings for a cigarette I used to. If I can't vape for an extended period of time, it seems like less of a deal than before.

Well it works out cheaper, but I definitely couldn't stop when I wanted. I think that that's actually a positive aspect about the analogues. You have a smoke, then it ends, would have to put shoes on to go outside to have another, so usually wouldn't bother. Whereas with the vaping, it's a case of "I'll have a bit now" .... puff away for five minutes. Put it down, then pick it back up ten minutes later. Repeat for the evening.

I found myself dashing home from work to get straight into it. Then I would be like an antichrist if I misplaced it or tried to go without for a day. So I said feic it, I'd try to kick it altogether.

Schmokes for about 12 years, then vaping for probably 3 years or so. I was purely digital for the last 2.5 years.

In my experience you'd want to be blowing serious clouds in there to set them off. If you just hold the vapour in for a few extra seconds what you exhale wont set the alarm off.

Doing it that way also makes it possible sitting at a window seat!

You can also stealth vape by taking an inhale of air after you take a vape but before you exhale.

Dashing home from work? Really? Why not bring it with you and vape on the way home?

Having built a smoke alarm from scratch)when I was about 12), I dont really see why vaping would set it off - no heat, no smoke.. I also dont see why airlines would care. Their main concern is a lit cigarette butt being put somewhere and creating a fire.

It really can. Someone on here said that the smoke alarms at vape fest went off and I assumed it was burnt hits or something but then I set mine off by vaping underneath it.

Dashing home at the end of the day, I stopped bringing it in as I'd be out vaping every hour. That did nothing but highlight to me how dependent I was on it.

If you watch some of the PBusardo youtube videos you will hear him talking about setting off the smoke alarms while reviewing , also in some of them you actually hear it going off .

Another thing which is annoying is my 24" Touch Screen Monitor,it is on my Kitchen table directly in front of me where I blow clouds from my sub ohm tanks & everything on the screen just moves around & changes pages when the vapour hits it,I don't type on that computer anymore:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 792 ✭✭✭Didihno

'Smoke' alarms or detectors are easily set off by vape. The detector works on the thickness of the particulate being dense enough and a lot of vape is just as effective as a lot of smoke. Heat alarms are different and will never be set off by vape.

My friend was vaping on the plane before, the flight attendant came over and told him he couldn't but then whispered to him "go to the toilet if you want to do that" so I think they don't mind as long as you're not blowing it in peoples faces. This was about 3 or four years ago though so things might have changed since then. Also he was using a cigalike type, I don't thing they would be too happy if you were using a sub ohm tank and clouding the jacks out of it.
